well it is good to see that this thread is back onto Notre Dame
I hope all the value signallers formed a queue outside their newsagents this morning and protested in the most po-faced tones, that the Sun had the headline 'Notre Doom' and that this was MOST inappropriate. well they have spent most of the morning protesting here. You can say to the hapless agent: " never mind the police lies over the Liverpool supporters of yesteryear - this pun is OUTRAGEOUS ! you should be banned!"
No they didnt - if you read this thread it is more about the posters and their dislikes and other little foibles and 50% about Notre Dame.
Hey does anyone do the Times? ( "Notre Dame Inferno", so it OK for even the most pious to buy and read it) . I am in the front page corner " Expert warns of dangers to Gothic Cathedral
and also I get a bit ( of copy that is - this is a family thread!) - inside ( inside the paper - shush you dirty boys! vets go and sit in your kennels!). "Firemen draw parallels with York". You read it all here last night - that is if anyone read the thread before giving me a good kick.
Does anyone here feel that kicking me is like clubbing a furry baby seal?

The steeple was nineteenth century and stuck on a-la-gothique. in 1850 by Lully zamaire or someone because it looked nice
the two old Rose windows have gone but not the one at the front ( er facade) which was .... nineteenth century
Ze couleurs of the windows have been lost, said one curator
That was family for "the gold in these old windows requires the urine from choirboys whose voices havent broken" - oo la la Madame!
any news on the choirstalls ? they were meant to be original and might have been fire wood....

the Catholic church is not poor, so it doesn't seem unreasonable for them to fund the rebuilding; individuals can help if they wish, and many have already done so.
I can't help wondering what would happen if it had been Britain. The Anglican church commissioners blew a lot of their money on bad property deals in the 1990s, though they recuperated some by selling off chunks of Mayfair a few years later. But I don't know if they could afford a complete rebuilding of Westminster Abbey.

Good job you are not a Mod, why should it be removed, there hasn't even been a full investigation carried out yet?
Even if it proved to be a retaliation terrorist attack, I doubt that the French authorities would broadcast it, because of the huge numbers of Muslims and the French people's attitude of taking to the streets in mass protests at the drop of a hat, there would be an almighty blood bath.

Macron ( the President that is!) cannot allocate state funds to the rebuilding of the now razed Notre Dame cathedral ( a Paris!) which burnt down last night. Some people might have heard. Macron is not allowed I judge because of the loi de 1904 ( laicite ). This law ( loi) enacts church state separation (in France and not elsewhere like England). It is difficult for the anglos to understand because it is so strict and the anglos have a state paid for religion ( Church of England if you hadnt noticed)
