What do you use to cut bamboo canes to a shorter length? I don't want to snap them but would like some shorter canes. I could buy some shoeter ones but I have loads of 6 ft ones which need halving....

I have some tomato plants that are only about 8 inches tall and they've already got flowers on them. Is that a sign of a good crop on it's way, or have they grown too soon and should I nip them off ?.
