The scaffold cage looks as if that alone will be a nightmare to deal with, especially if it collapses, which looks likely.
I just hope there’s no further damage to the two bell towers.

Half-wits do tend to stick together 3T.
I've just heard that remarkably there are no injuries.
Too sad for words.
Dreadful to see such a magnificent building on fire .
What was it like inside. Was it full of priceless stuff like Westminster.
Did they bury famous people/ royalty there?
It's surprising what can be done though. When Hampton Court went up and the roof timbers were destroyed, the trees that fell in Bushy Park during the hurricane were used to repair the roof.
Where will they find all the stonemasons to rebuild it?
This is just heartbreaking, it's hard to believe how a fire can take hold like that with all our modern firefighting knowledge.

There are others besides PP who think it funny.

Tilly, one of the things the rebuilding of Windsor Catle did was train up a new generation of craftsmen, under the guidance of the few older ones. They learnt a lot on the job - finding building techniques that had always puzzled people, but starting from scratch they realised why they'd been used.

A few years ago, a medieval manor (sorry, can't remember its name, but in England) needed a new oak ceiling, the old one being 500 years old and starting to splinter. But they couldn't find any oak trees big enough for the job. Eventually a man knocked at the door saying "I heard you needed oaks..." It turned out he was descended from the family that had supplied the original oak all those years before. As soon as they'd done so, they planted a new forest, knowing it would be needed centuries in the future.
Thank you, Jno. That sounds like a plan. :-)
Too sad for words :-(
Heart-rendingly symbolic. The death of Christian civilisation in Europe.
It has been speculated that the fire is related to the renovations. Now we all know that as time goes by there are going to be many, many views on how this fire came about and who might have been involved.
Ta, mamya. Doesn't seem 'on a par' with Westminster Abbey having been burned down/pillaged, etc. several times over the years. Probably coming over badly.
They're remarkably fast with their fire 'investigation'.
Really ? I think the fire department maybe are the experts , let’s wait on their response.
spicerack, Sky are saying all the cathedral's treasures (whatever that may amount to) have been saved; I suppose with the fire apparently starting in the roof they had time to clear the decks below.
