Having been disappointed in the past from unbiblical teaching from the Church Of England and a Gospel Hall, my sins have been weighing heavy on me lately, and I felt the need for Christian community.
So, today I attended a local Evangelical church.
I enjoyed it and was made very welcome.
This could be my spiritual home for the future.
Do any of you have any thoughts on Evangelical churches?

I don't really follow your rationale, Atheist. I had hoped the scriptures would speak for themselves. Those who say there is no God are making a patently foolish statement. Denying His existence is about as foolish as it gets. But despite our foolishness, God gives us multiple chances throughout life to turn from our ways and find full forgiveness,...

My church. Evangelical.
If you consider the Bible to be the be all and end all of Christianity then the only 'church' for you is the Kingdom Hall. Make sure you have a stout pair of shoes though, to see you through all the door-knocking.
Just as an aside: I lost faith in the Cof E when they closed the churches at the beginning of the Covid thing. I could understand no services, but to not allow people the solace of entering a church (despite hand-sterilising) to sit and pray - or just be calm- was beyond the pale i.m.o.. I resigned from the P.C.C. over it; that cost me a lot of anguish. I still try to help keep the building going, but the recent decision of the vicar to prohibit the choir and congregations from singing (most other churches will happily sing tomorrow) has driven me and all the other choir members to say 'bye. I feel more and more alienated from the C. of E., in which I grew up, interspersed with Methodism.
a pair of 'flat' shoes at that......
//Please provide me with a non-barmy church and I will give it a go//

Well, Well, Well,
Who'd have thought it?
Thelands church is right (The same Theland who denounced everyone elses churches as been apostate and everyone elses beliefs as been deluded/wrong/diabolical)
But now found the right church...
Now if only you can share Theland, we can all be saved from an eternity of suffering.
So go on, share...
Is it the Bethel Church in Tuebrook Theland?
I REALLY need to know how to be saved from the wrath of your god..
This God that torments my parents in hell and possibly my only child if he doesnt repent. Just how do you worship a god that does that?
How do you worship a god that tortures your loved ones. Forever?

I just dont get the mindset.
Its as sick as child abuse,
And anyone who defends it is sick a well.

Nailit if you don't believe in God in the first place you don't have a problem do you?
Like saying the unicorns will get you, or the tooth fairy, or Santa will biff you forever.
None of it is an issue.
Your problem is pride.
You are afraid to stand up and be counted.

The evangelical church seems sound, but if they deviate from the scriptures, or start the happy clappy worship of worship thing, or an Alpha course or anything gimmicky, then I'm off.

Mamya, its Bromborough Evangelical Church.
Question Author
Nailit you ask questions and demand chapter and verse.
If you want me to hold your hand and guide you through the bible, I will, but it will be a very lengthy process.
Please God (pun intended), NO!
Ta, hope tomorrow's service goes as well as last week's.

Me too Mamya. I was impressed with the honest approach to bible teaching, the lack of ritual and formality, and no, ''heavy shepherding,'' as in the Gospel Hall.
there is nothing wrong iwth sola scriptura....
it has been around for a long time, which is why it is in Latin

it does mean no church services, as none are described in the New Testament innit?

what are you going to do about church governance - how to run it - as there is nothing about that in the NT either is there?

there is a bit in the Didache but that is not canonical
Question Author
Sir Peter, church governance is above my pay grade.
Theland, what happened to your claim that you don't follow organised religion?
Question Author
I've been back to church again.
It was really good.
Naomi, organised religion? A very good point.
My answer is that I have found, I think so far, a church that share my views, that is, adherence to the bible, no deviation, and good solid bible teaching.
I had to look up the meaning of the term 'heavy shepherding'. It opened my eyes as to what goes on in some of these so-called 'evangelical' churches.
No deviation? Wow! So they include all the bits that don’t stand up to scrutiny then, along with the contradictions?
Question Author
Yes one whiff of that garbage and I'm off.
