Can you convince me of the truth of Atheism?
Quote references from scientists, philosophers, theologians or anybody you like, but anything except an unsupported personal opinion.

Apologies, that should be addressed to Theland - I do get the two of you confused - can't think why ...
Understandable AH.
They both stick to the same proverbial pattern.
Hans.
There is no such thing as a person without faith, only people who claim to possess no religious faith.
People can make strong arguments against the beliefs against the established religions but I dont let anyone get away with saying they have no faith.
There is something rather than nothing. So why should this be the case. I have never heard an atheist make a convincing case for this.
17:14, what a load of old pony.
// Make me an atheist //

I would but I can't knit
//There is no such thing as a person without faith, only people who claim to possess no religious faith//

Fiveleaves, does it ever occur to you that you are one such person?
Do you have faith in the Egyption Gods (Osiris, Isis & Horus for example)
Do you believe in the Hindu trinity of Bramah, Vishnu & Shiva?
Or a multiplicty of other 'trinitarian Gods?
Thelands recent berating of another 'Christian believer' for not believing in the trinity made me laugh.
Both quote from the same book but have entirely different doctrines.
Belief in Trinitarian Gods (and Goddesses) Has been around for millenia, belief in ANY form of deity has been around for even longer.

I no longer do faith, only facts and experience (and common sense).
I can no longer believe in the God of the Bible than I can believe in Loki, Tamuz or Thor.
Your reasons for not believing in Loki, Tamuz or Thor are EXACTLY the same reasons that I no longer believe in Jehovah, Jesus and the Holy Spirit (Another trinity)

Imagine the screaming and horror that a sentient being must feel at been Dammed forever to an eternal torture.

Why all the while you are worshipping God and telling him how great Thou art,,,
Religion is odious, pernicious and dangerous...

That's because atheists don't care if you think like they think - only you have that problem, which is probably why you can't admit that there are millions of people without faith - I know, I'm one of them.
Are we there yet?
fiveleaves. //I dont let anyone get away with saying they have no faith. //

I have no faith. Your call.
naomi - // fiveleaves. //I dont let anyone get away with saying they have no faith. //

Fiveleaves exhibits the front-and-centre arrogance of all fervents - he has a faith, therefore everyone else must have one as well.

Except they don't ...
Both fiveleaves and theland are not only giving their own opinions, fair enough... but then also trying to tell others what their opinions are. And getting it wrong.
Theland, to answer the OP. Everyone is born an atheist, so if you want to be one, you just need to work out what changed your mind and why.

That is a seriously impressive answer.

I'm going to put that in my 'I Wish I'd Written That' file.

xx
Thanks... I'm sure theland will as well :-) xx
I'm not sure I can convince anybody to be an atheist, i.e. not to believe in any god, if they really want/need to believe in such an unprovable, belief-based entity.

The real argument is against religion, in particular organised religion. Against which the best argument is, given that all organised religions are the invention of man, and there are more than four thousand of them, what makes you think any one organised religion is correct in its beliefs and claims? In which case, why do you persist with the beliefs and claims of yours?
pixie....That's brilliant. It will be very interesting to see if Theland now has anything to say to you.

Incidentally, I've noticed he's been quiet today, despite looking into AB.

Hans.

We'll see, Hans... I don't believe I abuse Theland- I certainly don't hate him- but still struggle to get a real answer... thank you, though x

Last time I asked someone that she slapped my face and walked away. Must have been the socks.
