I've recently rediscovered a regular favourite from my youth, a hot sweet mug of Horlicks, so nice on these cold evenings. It has also made me remember Ovaltine & Bournvita. Do they still exist? Does anyone else like Horlicks or any other winter warming milky drink?

You can still buy Ovaltine but Bournvita was discontinued about 10 years ago.

I used to drink Horlicks and hot chocolate until I embarked on my diet

I buy Horlicks original and this one.

These are not as nice as the one you make with hot milk, but like Barry, I'm trying to watch my weight.

I used to love a hot chocolate, but cannot find a decent brand that is sugar free. 😞

I think these hot drinks deserve sugar and full fat milk, which is why I don't drink them.

Low fat/low sugar versions just aren't the same

Full fat milk and sugar is how I take it. Is it really that bad maybe 2 or 3 times a week, I don't think that would have a noticeable effect on weight gain or loss.

^^^^^^^ there's only one way to find out.😀

The Horlicks that you add hot water to is like the Horlicks you get in hospital.

I remember those old Horlicks adverts in magazines in the Fifties, with the cartoon strips and "Night Starvation" sufferers being revitalised by Horlicks after a friend put them on its track.. LOL.

I seem to remember that making proper Horlicks with hot milk was quite a process.

Worth it though.

I've got sachets of the instant versions of Horlicks, Ovaltine and Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate on the shelf behing me here in my bedroom.  I'll often have one of those drinks just before going to bed (although it's just as likely that I'll have a decaf tea instead).

As has been said, Cadbury's discontinued Bournvita in the UK in 2008.  However it's still manufactured for the Indian market and available on Amazon UK:

I've got Ovaltine, Bournville, Horlicks and yer run of the mill hot chocolate.

Weirdly, I have never heard of Bournvita...is it a soft southern drink?

Prudie, one mug of Horlicks made with semi skimmed milk and no added sugar is 182 calories, 4g of fat and 19.2g of sugar.

I am diabetic so it's not good for me.

Cadbury's hot chocolate, semi skimmed milk, no added sugar is 168 cals, 4.1g fat and 23g sugar.

That's good compared to Starbucks hot chocolate. 322 calories, 13.6g fat and 34.2g sugar.

Sleep sweeter - Bournvita!

I like Twinings Swiss chocolate drink.

177 kcal / 25 g sugar per mug.

i buy Cadburys High lights chocolate 2.7 sugars per serving x

When I was young, and at my grandparent's house, I'd be given an eggcupful of dry Horlicks powder and sugar for finger-dipping and licking, as a treat.

Did you know that Horlicks Tablets are back on sale again?

Yes, I did know

I remember them but never drank them as I didn't like milk.

These days despite loving lattes I don't like milky drinks - strange isn't it.

Ooh, I might have to add a jar to the click and collect, I love Horlicks 😋
