So it seems, Abbey , that you haven't been underpaid after all. Unfortunately there may be no big tax rebate to help boost your finances, so your focus now has to be on finding a full time job or a second part time job, and cutting back on spending including takeaways, nails, bottomless brunches and driving lessons for the forseeable future

Yes I did even emailed them.

I didn't have 45 mins to spare when I rung tax office

'I didn't have 45 mins to spare'

No,obviously you were too busy making 33 posts on here between 1pm and 5pm (arbitary Tax Office closing time) rather than attempt to sort your Tax Code out and perhaps get some sort of tax rebate.

Your priorities are TOTALLY in the wrong place! I've said it before, you keep burying your head in the sand and then moan when things aren't going right for you.

I want to first thing but can't

... and what was wrong with trying all this afternoon.

Weren't you at work this morning?

Set up an online tax account using redhelen's link- that will tell your tax code. You can try that tonight.

Maybe on Thursday you'll have more time to ring HMRC.

Question Author

Yes I will before my interview

Ignored my questions again!

So, you're going to put the Tax Office off again? Typical - you can't be that short of money then if it 'can wait'.

Are you empoyed by the Laundry or the agency?

Does your company use a payroll company like SAGE? Ask at work, you'll probably find others get online payslips. Getting apayslip to see your tax code is a priority. You are definitely on the wrong code and are due back hundreds. Just start the process now. If you can't do it ask your MUM for help or go to see CAB if your employer won't give you your last payslip within 48 hours

Employed by laundry maybe care home owes aswell never got a payslip there

Could you please answer my questions, Abbey?

It's not the employer who owes you the tax rebate- it's HMRC. But if your code is sorted you'll get a rebate (refund of overpaid tax) and pay less tax going forward

And if you've had this multitude of jobs as an agency worker it's the agency that gives you a payslip not the employer. I pity the HMRC who take your call, how can they keep tabs on your constant changes? I'm not even sure how you know you've paid too much tax, who did give you payslips?

Question Author

Sorry sometimes I can't answer every question at once so captain I'll try Thursday morning when I got more time

Question Author

Prudie I haven't had payslips

Abbey, why didn't you follow the advice, about sorting out your tax, months ago? You only work three days a week, surely you could have done something about this before now?

Prudie- abbey works 21 hours a week at around £11-12 an hour so earns about £240 a week gross, but receives a net pay that's been as low as £120 (see a few past threads) and more recently around £150.

She earnls below the NI threshold and should be paying little or no tax (although it depends on earnings earlier in tax year too). So what's the £90 deduction for?

Question Author

I'm not sure but would never have thought about calling tax office unless I'm owed a cheque

Abbey, I'm sure the earlier advice was helpful, useful etc - but you seemed determined to do nothing.

PS You've been working for over 10 years, you must know that payslips are...normal?!

But without payslips we don't really know, and neither does abbey, exactly how many hours she is really doing or has been paid for. Maybe it's not 21, maybe there are long unpaid breaks, how do we even know she's paying tax at all?

A possibility that has been suggested is she's on BR code becasue they think she's employed at 2 jobs.

I'll bow out on this one as it's unbelievable and irritates me  -not one but two jobs have not provided payslips even though it's illegal not to.
