My poor husband thought he would be in and out of day surgery today. Unfortunately, he's been very sick with anaesthetic. So has to stay in tonight. They will ring me tomorrow regards coming out. Anyone on AB had surgery for hernia? What's time period before he can go about normal activities? Thanks.

I know 3 people who have. They were all told 6 weeks, but were back to normal within 2.
er six weeks
but ask the staff when you go and fetch him

( clearly it depends on the activity - dont go up Everest for six months and dont smoke - for ever!)

Question Author
Ok thanks PP. Hes hoping to be back driving for holiday.
He needs to take it very gently... and good luck xx
Patsy, I am sure that everything will be fine.....but as a backup, can you drive if he finds he needs a break?
Open surgery......6 weeks.
Laparoscopic surgery 2 -4 weeks,

Double hernia (bilateral) 6-8 weeks for strenuous exercise.
From the NHS website:
"Most people are able to go home the same day or the day after surgery and make a full recovery within a few weeks"

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hernia/#surgery-for-a-hernia
Yes, I have. Way back in 1972, I spent 3 days in hospital, went into work on the way home to pick up some stuff to do at home, and then spent three weeks off work.
