Change of vehicle ownership needs new owner to have road tax BEFORE they drive the vehicle. Any refund to previous owner is from 1st of following month.

Isnt that unfair & to the benefit of DVLA?

poor poor young hard working, tax paying nephew had to pay £350 to collect car due car pound being closed at w/e @ £100pd penalty. This could have been avoided if a sub nb was added to sorn stating new rules.

Hope less drivers fall into same trap.
I have sympathy tambo, but this has been in place a year and was well publicised. I think the Plod was a bit harsh though,l could have given the lad the benefit of the doubt. When I buy now I get the seller to give me the reference of the green slip and tax it before I collect.
How about if you declare SORN on the vehicle at 23.59 and then sell it on the 1st of the next month?
