Keir Starmer came close to declaring a policy position this morning, saying that while he won’t come out against Covid passports at this stage, their potential rollout would be against the “British instinct”.
Is he correct, would a passport system be a good idea ?

I agree we can't help what other countries decide... so a covid vaccine could realistically be a requirement to go abroad.
For people working and socialising in the country they live- it's choice. Anyone willing and able to be vaccinated, will, others won't or can't. But you have to allow real life back as much as possible.
“Not” necessarily worthwhile in itself
teacake44 "With respect woof, they can stuff their restrictions. I'm going to live my life the way I choose, when I choose. They are going to far, and are becoming dictators, ( if you let them)."

your choice but do stick with the facts please.
Ich, I just have a feeling the younger generation might have a bit of a ‘why bother’ attitude.

Meanwhile, back at COVID central....

Can they all take their rubbish home with them, please?
Eh?
woof, were have I gone off the facts? The bottom line is that we have a new virus, and we have a new vaccine, a vaccine is as far as you can go, so any other rubbish or fag packet idea dreamed up by government is pie in the sky.
//…but I think you are conflating two issues: one is having documentation that you have had the two vaccinations and the second, how that documentation is put to use.//

I’m only talking about the proposal to require proof of vaccination to go about your business in this country, Khandro.

//As an aside; having a booklet which contains all the vaccinations and dates when the person has had them, is considered an asset to both the holder…//

Yes I’ve got one. But I don’t have to produce it to get into my local pub. In fact the only time I’ve ever had to produce it is to have further vaccination details added to it. I'll gladly produce it again to have my Covid jabs entered.

//And, can you actually envisage hired 'bouncers' standing at the doors of busy pubs & restaurants checking documents ? I don't think so.//

No I can’t. As I said, I believe it is a ridiculous idea which is largely unworkable and needs to be promptly put down. It’s very true that pubs won’t want to get involved in such a scheme. But if it is introduced they will have no choice. Local Authorities will be rubbing their hands with glee. They will have armies of jobsworths on standby, eager to roam round the area checking that pubs and restaurants are complying, with the threat of enforced closure if they are not. Meanwhile there is an abandoned car a short distance from my house which has been there for more than five months. The LA cannot move it “due to Covid.”

“””\\ At the moment there have been in excess of 30 million vaccines//
Only another 37 million to go.”””

There is no need for the entire population to be vaccinated before restrictions can be eased. All of the most vulnerable have now been offered their first jab, many of them have had two. The idea of the lockdown (originally) was to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed. Patient numbers in hospital are down to less than 10% of the peak a couple of months ago; daily admissions are down to around 6% of the peak. The “emergency” has passed and restrictions are now being enforced “just in case.” Well many businesses don’t have the luxury of remaining closed “just in case.”

//NJ. Don’t tell me I am dictating to others .//

What else would you call this then?:

//Alll I would ask is that you do not put anyone in danger with your actions .//
it's unworkable in the real world, example take an inner city pub
and think thousand may walk by daily, err i forgot my id..err let's chance it, pint plz/ publican id plz, country pub you could get away with it..maybe, but since we have all been locked up, there will be a lot of people who fancy a pint a meal etc, again oh i forgot my id, less u live in a hamlet... it will not work.

Were my mother still alive & in the care home where she ended her days, I would expect nothing less of the staff - even if all the residents had been vaccinated- to not allow anyone through the doors without clear documentation that the person had had the full 2 shots.

That would apply to hospitals & various other institutions.
khandra Flu also kills elderly people more so, passport for flu too? the list could go on for ever.
Khandro, you are aware the vaccine is really effective as stopping people getting really sick -

"There is a chance you might still get or spread coronavirus even if you have the vaccine."

^ from your link: "There is a chance you might still get or spread coronavirus even if you have the vaccine."

This is not proven, but remotely possible, so as my doc. said to me; 'though you have had 2 jabs, we still don't know enough about it, so better keep masking-up', which I shall do in public.
And so it will go on. Because we can't be too careful.
keep it all locked down, stepping on shells...the arguement is getting tired, open up the pubs and restaurants now, us oldies have had our vaccines... enough fear and doom as its getting rather.. a tired argument.. if your scared then stay in, id like a nice drink and a meal thank you.
