I don’t know how much compensation Lissie may receive for the loss of her husband in such appalling circumstances - not that any amount will really compensate - but spending money on low-lives like these people sticks in the craw a bit. Yes, I know … they're 'entitled'.

No, he isn't, tamborine.

quite true Naomi - I just have law O level - I think Naomi hasnt turned her irony klaxon on today

this is quite useful for homicide
https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/homicide-murder-and-manslaughter

and some one true to AB principles ( the one that says "I do not know my arriss from my elbow") has called them convicted murderers

nope - manslaughter - see ref above
talking a bit above Naomis level

In a legal aid drugs case - the Crown failed to take into account it was transnational - and failed to get the AG's permission ( NOT a rubber stamp) - so it was dismissed, and the defence got a 'wasted costs order' and bunged in a b ill (oops fee note!) over a million

just upping the standard of discussion
//Tamborine, dragging him for more than a mile was no accident.//

I meet up with Thames Valley Police Officers once a month. The secretary of the club is a long term friend of 65 years standing. Naturally the mood has been very sombre in past weeks. I have been told that one of the accused admitted they turned up the car radio to drown out the screams of PC Andrew Harper as they knowingly dragged him along the lane for a mile. Murder ? Yes imo .
Retro, that was reported in several places. Somehow, it couldn't be proven that they knew.
RETRO, was that "admission" presented in evidence during the trial?
Agreed PC Harper's death was murderous intent.

Therefore "no intent to injure" does not apply to PC Harper.

//RETRO, was that "admission" presented in evidence during the trial? //

Apparently, according to pixie374, it seems it was. I did not follow all the reported trial proceedings in the media. I am relaying what I was told by a serving TVP officer. A rhetorical question was muted at the time.It went, words to the effect," How the f*** can they be charged with manslaughter when they admitted in interview they turned up the car radio to drown out the PC's screams as they dragged him behind them?"
If that was indeed an admission by one of them all I can say further is 'their time will come'.
//Giving evidence, Long admitted being a habitual thief who had been involved in many police chases before.

On the night Pc Harper died, he said it was chaos inside the car and he ordered the radio to be turned up to drown out his passengers’ shouting.//

It's a horrendous case and totally understandable that PC Harper's widow and family feel as they do - who wouldn't?
Retro, DPP v Smith was a similar set of circumstances:-

Don't blame the lawyers, they studied hard for their price, blame legal aid.
"he said it was chaos inside the car and he ordered the radio to be turned up to drown out his passengers’ shouting."

That is not saying it was to drown out the PC's screams.

//"he said it was chaos inside the car and he ordered the radio to be turned up to drown out his passengers’ shouting."//

TCL
If you believe that then you have my pity. If you had passengers shouting in your car and giving you GBH of the lugs the last thing,I would suggest,is to create more noise by turning up the radio. You would order your passengers to tone it down!!! He didn't slow down or consider cutting free PC Harper from the entanglement. He just blotted out his screams by turning up the radio.
Disgusting people. His poor family will live in torment for the rest of their lives imagining the pain and horror the poor man endured.
RETRO, you said you had been telt there was an admission the radio had been turnt up to drown the screams.

The report in the paper does not support that version and if there were a confession, it would have been presented in court.

Usual B.S. and scam from PP. He obviously has never heard that you can't make a silk from a sow's ear. :-)

naomi - // They can hardly appeal on those grounds. They dragged him for more than a mile! //

The entire basis of their defence against a murder charge was that they were unaware that they were dragging a human behind their car.

The prosecution failed to convince the court that they were aware, and that is why they are not guilty of murder.
Question Author
Yep.
naomi - // Yep. //

Is that addressed to my response, that your notion that they cannot appeal on the basis of 'no intention to injure' is actually not true?
