Is it just journalists who are affronted by his Grenfell comments?

Perhaps a little insensitive, but I can't see much wrong with his comments. To listen to the BBC this morning, you would have thought he lit the fire.

At Lakanal the lift was not working and delayed the firefights getting to the blaze. //

Have I misinterpreted something here. Firefighters and residents alike are always instructed not to use the lifts in case of an emergency! Part of the stay put policy is for Firefighters to climb the stairwells unimpeded with their heavy equipment, possibly in black smoke and wearing BA. They have to arrive, hopefully as near to the seat of the fire and make assessments before deciding on best practice and evacuation procedure.
I stayed in hundreds of hotels all over the world & usually there is some 'what to do in the case fire' information in the room. Never once have I seen it say, "Remain in your room" !

Errr......... ! //

Again you are failing to make sense.

Errrr - what?
Khandro, there’s a difference between hotel rooms and flats that are supposed to be contained to prevent fire spreading to their neighbours.

Isn't it a fair assumption that a person who believes in something, would act on it?
What kind of person says, "I believe in charity, but I don't give", or "I believe it's going to rain, but I won't take my umbrella"
Either a hypocrite or a moron.
I believe in charity to me. I like walking in the rain.

It is - but I am baffled as to what it is you understand I 'believe' in, and would act on, perhaps you can enlighten me?

// On the day of the fire the Firefighter’s Lift in the entrance lobby was out of action. This lobby had a metal plate on the wall with details of which flats were on which floors. The Firefighters had to use the escape stairs, carrying up heavy hoses etc while people were escaping. As this was an escape stair there was no panel at the bottom to indicate which floors the flats were on. Firefighters had to mentally count the floors and they used up valuable air in their breathing apparatus as they climbed the stairs. //
Andy Hughes - I was making the point that I agree with Jacob Rees-Mogg because I have actually been in that situation. I noticed that no-one else had said that they have been in the same situation. I had nothing else to say about anyone.
