Weather turned, stranded, hypothermia is my guess, even in August.
I have been atop of modest mountains in the UK in the height of summer, baking hot sunshine at ground level, very very cold at the top
///The ridge is “probably the trickiest scrambling on any” route listed on WalkHighlands, the website says, describing it as “hard, exposed” terrain linking the Munros of Meall Dearg and Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh, which have summits reaching 952m and 967m above sea level respectively.///

So an accident looks likely?

It could have been a matter of: one walker slips, the others try to help, and they slip also. As easy as that.
It's more of a scramble rather than walking.
It's a narrow ridge walk.
". A search was carried out in difficult weather conditions, with low visibility caused by mist and fog.

The bodies of two men and a woman were located and the coastguard helicopter from Prestwick arrived in daylight to help mountain rescuers recover the bodies."

The temperature was as low as 3 C, if they were sweaty or wet, hypothermia is a real risk
More likely three roped together, one falls and neither of the others sufficiently well anchored.
Aonach Eagach is a notoriously narrow ridge. (It makes Striding Edge, on the approach to Helvellyn in the Lake District, look easy but plenty of people have fallen to their deaths from Striding Edge).

This picture gives some idea of what fell walkers are up against on Aonach Eagach:

For anyone who's got a bit more time to spare . . .
Sorry no sympathy. There is no need for them to do this. Hubris. Putting the rescuers lives at risk too just for their own egotism. Plenty of nice walks they can take without pushing the boundaries.

I find it incredulous that THREE people could die like that, people ( & these were presumably fit & not elderly) can withstand much more severe conditions than that.
A mystery, but I guess all will be revealed later,

Just looked at Chris' picture & it looks alarming, perhaps a sudden strong gust of wind could easily blow them off that ridge.

Shouldn't they be roped together?
Lankeela @ 01.05 ....."No sympathy" ... What an awful thing to say about three people who have died. What a nasty person you are .
I hope their family and friends never see your nasty post. Shame on you.
Could have been put a bit more sensitively Gulliver but the underlying point is a good one. If you have ever known anyone in the Rescue services you would be amazed at how many they have to rescue because they are 'pushing the boundaries' or just plain idiotic.

Remember rescuers do get hurt, and killed occasionally, and their families need to be thought of too.
"What a nasty person you are "

oh the irony, youre the unwanted gift that just keeps on giving...

remind us about your comments on Boris "ending up in a ditch" or words to that effect...im sure youre little mate hymie will trawl AB for them
Oh dear.
.im sure youre little mate hymie will trawl AB for them

I thought extreme hikers were encouraged to carry a bivvy tent with them ( in case)
Have we had 'exposure' - yes in August

Mamlynne told me it was not done to trawl past posts for the most idiotic.
Naomi invited me to trawl froo her oeuvre and both the other mods and I er turned down the kind offer, characteristically generous tho it was

Peter Pedant //Naomi invited me to trawl froo her oeuvre and both the other mods and I er turned down the kind offer, characteristically generous tho it was //

What?
PP you’ve dipped into an all time low( if that’s possible) to bring the late Mamylynn into your strange rantings!!
Nope
Mamalynne said I should not trawl froo others posts er looking for the most stupid.
( fact: she said it and I stopped. no disrespect (*)) de mortuis nil nisi bonum - ( PP bad puppy!)
and no I wont dig it out from christ knows when - very early on.

and Naomi - Hi naomi - is no stranger to challenging " when did I say that" or " I dont remember saying that" - and no I am not going to dig out any of them either

Phone and just three words, or is there no signal in Scotland?

(*) so no disrespect - in fact by remembering her advice and wise words, you might say I was showing respect

we have gone very AB-ish, very early on in the day, boys and gurlz
//Hi naomi - is no stranger to challenging //

But you are a stranger to the truth, PP.
Yet [i[ another [i] thread tainted by a personal spat. Shockingly immature.
