If I do a registration check on cars that have been restored, a lot of them seem no longer to be on the road, just wondered why that might be.

Because putting miles on them lessens the value, I would have thought.
No need for MOT Tax ( classic I would think) most of info comes from there I think again?
Every car must be taxed or SORN’d and classic/vintage cars are no different, they simply have a ‘nil’ payment. The tax has to be renewed every year.
I suspect that some of the cars on the show are displaying false plates for privacy.
Are they from the older shows? It's been running 20 years some of the early cars where were pretty cheap.
I've looked up quite a few and I've yet to not find one.
They moved to California in 2014 and only moved back to the UK 12 months ago, for series 17. Just how old are the episodes you've been watching?
I've just put Wheeler Dealers on, searched the reg of the Aston Martin DB7 and it's MoTd but the tax is out of date. It's been doing on average 1400 miles a year, what a waste of a car
yes - older shows. I've looked at the MoT records for odd ones & they seem to go downhill rapidly (no pun) after the WDs have done with them.
I see Ant has left WD now, I haven't seen any of series 17, Mike Brewer does my head in.
"old out yer and" !
LOL Davebro ^^^ :-)
Brewer motors,
long established family business,
and Name you can trust!

Perhaps not then.
Although no money or amount of work is spared in making the cars as good as possible, any aged car will eventually befall some required repair that exceeds the value of the car.

For many, an unobtainable part may have been the death-knell for the vehicle.
That made me laugh, davebro

I used to be in a Wheeler Dealer FB group and quite a few cars that had supposedly been sold on the show were advertised for sale on Autotrader by the production company. It's all smoke and mirrors.
Smoke, mirrors and a pwofit.

My bottom. :-)

The big fella worked for geezer for nowt in the real world.
Yes - they clock up a few hundred / maybe a couple of thou profit but if Edds wage was charged at garage rates it would be mega losses.
but I enjoyed some of them!
It was never just Edd or Ant that did the work, there has always been mechanics, panel beaters etc working off camera.
Just as Mike didn't source the cars and do the deals.
