I watched it for the first time in ages. How dumbed down the general knowledge questions have become. I won’t bother again.

Doubt it.
The whole thing is dumbed down.
And only 1.5 mins for the specialist subject.
At least they have dropped the “little chat” at the start of the GK round
Agreed - if I could be bothered to swot up a specialist subject I could probably wipe the floor with most of this year's players.
Bet you've been reading Pear's Cyclopaedia in bed. Everything you never needed to know in one book
Oh shame on me. I put the apostrophe in the wrong place.
Most of you are obviously much cleberer than I am. I enjoy the show as entertainment.
I still remember the bloke - it was in a semi final I think. He got all 16 of his subject question right & 15/16 on GK. The one he got wrong was "Which is the smallest mammal" he said "The Shrew". They said "That's incorrect - it's the European Pygmy Shrew". So close!
I quite enjoy it.
But it has dumbed down
With the advent of Google and mobile phones, nobody needs to know / remember anything these days.
This is PROPER Mastermind!

There is knowledge you know and knowledge you know where to find
( Dr Johnson 1742) - he probz said - "a man knows"

"The Shrew". They said "That's incorrect - it's the European Pygmy Shrew". So close!
yeah I knew that - sorex minimus ( as Naomi says: I am great at super-fast googling!) - difft species to er other sorices.

No Honestly when I was at Porton Down 1970, there was the only man in Europe there who cd breed them in captivity ! Resting respiratory rate 140 I think. Easy to frighten to death and they wont er kiss. People came from all over Europe to ask him how he did it. he told them. And they still cdnt do it
There has been some dumbing down on 'Brain of Britain' as well but not to the same extent.
