Do others think that all dogs (apart from guide dogs obviously) should be completely banned from restaurants? I do and would avoid any restaurant that claims to be dog-friendly as these smelly creatures have no place near food.

Dogs in restaurants? Are you serious?

No way (except for those fantastic guide dogs)
And other assistance dogs?
I'm not a huge dog fan, but I'd be happy to go to a restaurant with quiet dogs under their owners' table. I don't think you can really catch any diseases or anything by being in the same room as a dog while eating.

There is a B&B near me whose adverts say it is 'Dog friendly on request'. That amuses me :) "Oh, we forgot to ask them to be dog friendly."
Stringfellow - not my fave human being on account of the mullet - replied to two Australians who complained that he was dining with a wolfhound ( not on ON the wolfhound - I have to be careful I am on AB ) and dear Stringy said
'The dog is better behaved than a lot of Australians who come in here.'
Stringy was at the time owner of the eaterie - Stringfellows

Evershot - middle of nowhere dear boy - Darzet
Eversholt in Hardy - Tess ( of the d'Urbervilles , that is ! ) had breakfast there on her way to Emminster (*) - or Beaminster that is ! - The Acorn ( Inn that is! ) is dog friendly and if you want a dogless dinner then they send you across to their other establishment - Summer Lodge.
you pay more for less dog, kinda

Both very very worth it

(*) where dat den ?
Eversholt - Evershot -Emminster - Beaminster - where all dey den ? dat Angel Clare ! he was really mental .... foo-foo as dey say nowadays - Tess she wasnt much better - her ! no better than she should be

I'd like to ban all restaurants which don't allow dogs.

In other countries, such as France, it's perfectly normal to encounter perhaps half a dozen dogs (or, sometimes, many more) in almost every restaurant one visits. I'd love to see such an attitude adopted here.

///In other countries, such as France///

Ah yes, the French, that says it all really.
No problem with trained and well behaved dogs, but god preserve us from cats and seagulls in restaurants.
That's quite a surreal image Togo, unless the Seagull is part of the staff.
>>> but god preserve us from cats and seagulls in restaurants

You get charged a fiver just to walk through the door of the café down the road from me. Why? Because they've got cats, of course!

Ahem. No such thing as seagulls. :-D

Thank you Doug. someone agrees with me, at last, on that.
Jonathon will be bereft Douglas. (^_*)
I’d prefer animal free dining, but, having an animal mad sister, I’ve chowed down with doggies often. But, when Sis (says give them a bit of your steak) enough is enough.
mamy: //Not quite following that logic TTT - would that apply to other situations. // - the basis for not allowing dogs is that they are "smelly etc", unhygienic, etc, guide dogs are no different but they are allowed, I assume, because they have a useful function. QED it is illogical to ban dogs on the basis of hygiene if you make exceptions for functionality.
A dogs fart is not worse than the truffle smell of french cuisine.

No dogs where I eat!
I eat with 2 jack Russells on close observance almost every evening! one of the little fellas is on the left.
And what a lovely little fella he is.
Hang on a minute....has anyone thought of the poor dog?? They surely don't want restrictions in a public human environment! They don't ask for involvement! Ruddy humans think they know best ...do they consider their animals? Not in my opinion. If you want a mel in. Public place then go...leave the animal at home they don't want to be restricted and if you think they..you are wrong!

Leave animals at home for these occasions...also for beach visits in blazing sun. Enjoy yourselves BUT if you have an animal....consider it rather than yourselves. They need a life too.
My dog would rather be with me any time than be left at home. Oh and I don't take him out in the blazing sun.
Oh dunnitall I had a lovely little dog once and she LOVED going to the beach, she was like a kid and splashed about in the sea. She actually kept looking back longingly as we left hours later. It was a pleasure and a joy to take her to the beach, for both of us. God, I miss that doggie.
