Morrisons The Best Valpolicella Ripasso 2009 13%

A robust and concentrated red with hypnotic aromas red fruits, dark chocolate and a hint of toffee, leading to rich flavours of red cherries and mocha on the palate. This gorgeous Italian number has silky, soft tannins, oodles of finesse and superb length. Try with soft, creamy cheeses such as brie or mascarpone, or a warm goats cheese and toasted hazelnut salad.

Available for the normal price of £7.29.

You make it sound like a fancy liqueur :-)
May try to pop into Morrisons then.

Hi MM...

I'd recommend a dry, fruity-driven white such as Albariño. Asda and Tesco do their own for around £7-8 a bottle.

Alternatively, Morrisons have the excellent Kumala Chenin Blanc / Chardonnay on offer at £3.99 (down from £9.99). Let us know how you get on.

Albarino.....Martin Codax

Try that for starters.
Truly superb wine for sardines.....and will cut against the feta too - the issue is finding it. One of my wines of the year - but a tenner a bottle

Wither Hills Pinot Noir or their Sauv Blanc from Waitrose too would go well too, chill the Pinot Noir a tad..............

OOoh, Sqad, great minds think alike.

Should have been *fruit-driven* by the way.
Sorry - didn't include the wine

the Withers come in a penny under ten
I`d go for Tesco Rose Sancerre £10.99. It`s complex enough to go with sardines.
Question Author
Have you tried the Wither Hills Pinot Gris, DT? Incredible!!
Have in the past (who is selling it to try again?) - believe that they, Withers, are the pick of the Gallo stable now....surprisingly they are even there. I know there was a punch up between Gallo and New Haven
Question Author
Waitrose ... £9.29. I had it with the seared scallops and Cauliflower Purée.
Looks like that they have divested from NZ.....(used to deal with Gallo in the States - interesting outfit).
Damn - nearest for the moment is Okehampton or Saltash - they keep talking about opening one down here. Thanks though.....
Question Author
If you were to take a drive and buy a couple of mixed cases, DT, it would be well worth the trip.
possible as I have a potential client for a drawing up there, near Okehampton.
Took ages to spot, almost gave up. Unsure why it must have a subtle label !

It's about twice the price of wine I normally get to sample, but as it is little more than the cost of 2 (and a bit) pints of beer at the pub (and my mate can't make the pub tonight) it doesn't seem unreasonable for my woman & me to try a couple of glasses each.
Interested to hear your opinion, OG.....
