Tesco are now doing a range of monovarietal wines called, "Simply".

Simply Cabernet Sauvignon, Simply Chianti, Simply Sauv Blanc, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and many other varieties. With prices ranging from £3.69 to £5.49 per bottle, it not only is affordable, it takes away the complication of choosing a wine for those who would normally stand there scratching their heads and not knowing what to choose.

However, Wine of the Week this week is another corker from the Bernard Series - The Whole Bunch Grenache Blanc / Viognier (SA 14%). An incredibly flavoursome wine with beautiful aromas of wild mushroom and herbs. Would pair well with a creamy chicken pie or mushroom risotto. Available in Tesco for £10.99.

lol! I gave in and open the Taittinger the other day... I had a bad head the next day.
Kartuli Vazi red Georgian wine is the most amazing wine I've ever tasted but it doesn't seem to have reached Tesco's shelves.
Crimean red Bastardo is not the greatest, but you have to buy it just for the name!
Question Author
Where did you manage to source the Kartuli Vazi ??
You didn`t did you? How naughty. Wasn`t that supposed to be for Christmas? Never fear NoM, they`ve got it in Sainsburys for £17.49 (beating Tescos by 50p)
Right... I'm very cross with myself as I wanted to get the same bottle this weekend if the offer was still on as it was very nice. I've worked out I definitely brought it in Tescos as I brought it when I was in Sleaford on Saturday and there was a big tescos opposite the B&B, and I then brought it back to London and drank it at home (hence my confusion with my local sainsburys). However, looking at the labels on the tescos wines that are on special offer, nothing is springing out at me and I'm sure we've thrown the bottle. :-/

Shame; that was really lovely
"Where did you manage to source the Kartuli Vazi ?? "

From Kyiv - it was a present. It's a bit sweet, like most Georgian wine, but there's something about it!!

It was, 237, but I had a jolly good reason to celebrate.

Ichkeria, I wouldn't mind betting Waitrose stock at least one Georgian wine. They have Kosher wines and all sorts.
Yes I must have a look in Waitrose, NoMercy. Thanks for the tip.

Don't mention it. Let me know if you find anything of interest.
Thanks for the information DT. Have looked at both links. We're not overly near Rotherham :-) Either end of the M4 actually.

I'll pass the information on, but those bag in a box ones. Ah, well, what tends to happen is that I get encouraged to open a bottle before the Sunday evening meal, we have a glass or two each, then anything left I get packed off with when I go. I'm unsure I can manage the rest of the box by the end of the week ;-)

Stopped at Sainsburys on the way home and was amazed at the selection of great wines on at 2 for £10. I picked up a Marques de Montoya Cava (£11.99 each) and a bottle of Kumala Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon for just a tenner. Being able to mix and match is ideal.

I have to say, the Kumala is superb!
OG - may have found something in Maidenhead for you:

Nice work, DT !
the Kumala is very good

Have youe ever tried the Vicar's Choice, NoM - now that is truly stunning
Question Author
No I haven't, but you've got my full attention now...

What's the grape and region, and where do you buy it?
Majestic had it for a while - don't know if they still do.

Wairau valley, S-Blanc, part of the St Clair estate.

The good news is Waitrose have it!
Question Author
Ah yes, I have tried it. Tesco also stock it. It is quite simply mouthwatering with goats cheese. :-)
