Tesco Finest Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich and hearty red, full to the brim with blackcurrant and bramble fruit. It is elegant, full-flavoured and has great depth and length - a supreme example of Californian Winemaking. Pairs well with slow roasted meats but will equally stand up to something more gamey.

Available in Tesco for the normal price of £8.99.

Finally drank my Christmas Barolo (Aldi £9.99) last night.

Decanted it at lunchtime (not so much because of sediment but to let it breathe) and it was just brilliant with the haggis/neeps/tatties.

Smooth as a very smooth thing that's having a smooth day - almost hints of brown in the colour, not oaky at all, but just the right tannin-rich taste. I've...

Still dry here for a week more and a case of Haut Medoc, Chateau Le Monteil D'Arsac, sitting here forlornly, a present from one of my sisters.

Just want to give a mention to a wine the in-laws bought me for my birthday. It was a Co-op Fairtrade Argentine Chardonnay and was quite unlike any chardonnay I've tasted before. I don't know the price but I can tell you it was full-flavoured and fruity and I will definitely buy that wine if I see it.

I've paid much more, for much worse - I'll be scouring the leftovers shelves at both my local Aldis in case there is still a bottle or two available.

We eventually opted for a 1987 16yo Bowmore for the toast and some after dinner sipping - quite astonishingly good - you could taste the sea in every dram. Fairly restrained on the peat for Bowmore, but loads of ozone, seaweed and iodine. Someone even thought they detected an element of 'Vicks' in there - but it was very late at night and they were quite 'relaxed'.
nudged for JJ ... :+)
this could become a splendidly addictive read............

lol @ Mick - vote for best answer, NoM?

pillj - it is a good read and apart from our recommendations we do try and find a source of harder-to-get wines (or even spirits) for folk.....

Plus it's nice to know what great offers are on, which reminds me...

Morrisons have the Kumala range reduced from £9.99 down to £3.99 at the moment.
