BBC have announced that they have commisioned a second series of Dr Who but Chris is leaving so not to be typecast.  Any suggestions for his replacement?

I'd like to see any one of these three, no particular preference:

Richard E Grant, Eddie Izzard or Alan Davies.

The bloke from Casanova just doesn't seem to fit the bill and I hope the BBC don't appoint him in a knee jerk reaction.

I'm with Richard E Grant for the eccentric Doctor, we need to get back to that.

You can bet your life we'll be watching Cassanova when it is on BBC1 soon ( I don't have digital ), if only to see David Tennant.

I also think Richard E Grant would be good in the role.
Simon Callow is on record as saying he'd love to do it. I think he'd be good.Suitably eccentric with a GSOH.I'm very disappointed with CE saying he thinks he'd be typecast. Tom Baker and Peter Davison don't seem to have suffered from it.
Chris E probably left because the new series is so dire. I don't think they should have made a new one. Dr. Who should remain in the past, when I used to sleep in the top bunk so that daleks couldn't get me. I don't think walking mannaquins will have the same effect on children. And CE is not right for the part. I agree with Lorcan, he's too 'matey' and normal.

I'm led to believe that the new Doctor Who will be announced tomorrow, 2nd April, or on Monday.

Steph84, every generation of youngsters deserves to have their Doctor, we all had one when we grew up.

As the old saying goes, it was never as good as in my day. Todays youngsters will be saying that of Eccleston in 2025.

If the BBC could get him, Patrick Stewart, or failing that Richard E Grant, but have you seen some of the names that are being spoken of? Bill Nighy, David Thewlis, Alan Davies?? PLEASE, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I think that David Tennant , although a good actor, just looks too young to be a Doctor..if they are thinking of giving it him, they may as well give it to Daniel Radcliffe....it'd make a change from Harry Potter!
Just a couple of other points:
1) Although I'm all for equal opportunities and equality, please nor a female Doctor..
2) Steph84, the walking mannequins (or Autons, to use the proper name) featured in 2 stories back in the early 1970's, so they're an old enemy, just as the Daleks are.
Yes - Eddy Izzard - Great idea!!!!!
Christopher Eccleston is really sexy so someone has to match up to him!  Richard E Grant would be a great doctor I think.  Alan Davies would look good in a scarf but he's very annoying sounding.  If he went off on one about the Tardis I think he's bore/annoy poor Billie to death

Ecclestone has been excellent, as has the show so far. It's a bit selfish of him to leave after one series imho, given that after 16 years away it should have had some continuity.

Alan Davies and Eddie Izzard would both be a TERRIBLE choice. Of the Actors Bandied about to replace Ecclestone. I'd personally like to see David Thewlis.

There have only been two episodes so far, and already people are saying it's rubbish. I'm loving it, personally, even though I'm all grown up and it is, essentially, a kids program. My first Dr was Jon Pertwee, then mostly Tom Baker and a little Peter Davidson. I haven't actually heard any kids talking about it, but us grown ups have got plenty to say! hahaha

I think Eddie  Izzard would be fab as the Dr, I can just see him babbling on to himself and then dashing off leaving the assistant in his wake, a la Tom Baker.

I do like Billie though, and for some reason I thought I wouldn't. I do wish CE would stay. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

:o)

Lorcan

You are the first person i know that remembers Manimal !! When I talk about everyone thinks I am mad.  Please any links !!

X

Has anyone else heard the rumour it may be Ronnie Corbett?
Could we have an unknown - someone who would appreciate the chance given HIM? (Really can't see a woman in the role, Romana didn't convince me.) Typecast - huh, CE must have known what he was getting into, he's not daft. I do feel his quitting will reflect badly on him - and he'll be known for the wrong reasons.
i hope this is just a publicity stunt and that he will do a second series, they are onto a winning combination, I heard Chris said he did not want to get typecast, but let's face it, it never harmed Tom Baker, he has a lifetimes voiceover work!!!!!
Would love to see Bill Nighy play the next Dr supperb actor and can play any part thrown at him, Great actor hope he gets a great break at being the Dr :)
me
I think Eddie Izzard would make a fan Doctor but im biased coz i luv him! I also think that either Richard E Grant or Simon Callow would be great. Callow was excellent as Charlie Dickens the other night.
