Suggested on the radio this morning - Ken Bruce !!
Not too sure about that idea though.
The bloke who plays Casonova has been approached.Personally though I watched it as aKid when Jon Pertwee was Dr I never understood why it became as popular as it did. The first one with Ecleston was rubbish
I dont really mind who plays the Doctor ,but whoever gets the role needs to be commited and prepared to join the series for the long haul as he will be the 10th Doctor & a timelord is meant to have 12 lives. I'm glad Billie Piper is staying. Maybe Richard E Grant as he has already played the doctor very well in a web cast.
I think Eddie Izzard would be fab, but I know not everyone will agree on that!
Eddie Izzard would be fab!!!  The bloke who plays Caanova looks suitably unusual tho.   Shame they couldn't bring back Tom Baker...my definitive Doctor.

Joe Shmoe, the writers will come up with some excuse once the Doctor reaches his 13th body. After all, the idea of changing bodies was a way of changing actors in the first place.

I'm sure the Time Lords will grant the Doctor a new lease of lives.

I am very disappointed that he's going before he really knows how this series will pan out. Hmmm.

He's leaving as he doesn't want to be typecast....

So now he's gonna be known as 'the actor that snubbed the return of Dr Who'....

How about Tony Gardner (The father, Brian, in My Parents are Aliens)

Or how about Simon MacCorkindale, who plays Harry in Casualty.

Nicholas Lyndhurst or Peter Kay...............Is this the way to Galifray

Robbie Williams will make a fun Dr. Who
Anthony Cotton (Sean from Coronation Street) :)
someone really sexy!!
on the same radio theme as sillymoo how about alex lester he could slap the daleks top
No no, not Casanova, if anyone from "Blackpool" it should be the main character ( the arcade owner guy). Altenatively Jim Broadbent would be good I think. A real shame about Mr. Eccleston although I think the typecasting excuse is feeble, he must have thought about that before taking the role surely, he doesn't seem totally naive. Anyone care for some jelly babies ??

My only prooblem with CE was I felt he was too 'matey' and normal - all the other Doctors were slightly eccentric (usually with a trademark sartorial style such as a scarf or a bright suit.) I'd prefer the Doctor to be more aloof and have a kind of 'teacher/pupil' relationship with the assistant.

How about Michael French?

And Cockneysi, as an erstwhile Manimal fan I'd vote for your SM suggestion ...

I would go for Robbie Coltrane!  :)  Now he'd be amusing!  Richard E Grant would be perfect... but I think Rik Mayal could pull it off too! :)
Shirley Ghostman aka Mark Wooton.
tonymclark, that is smart thinking after all with the right scriptwriters any thing is possible. What we need is an actor who has dreamed of being  the doctor since childhood.
As suggested on my local radio station this morning, why shouldn't the character be played by a woman? A "Doctor " doesn't necessarily have to be a man? Does it? Then we could all have a debate on who would be the "sidekick" !!!!!!!
