I tried watching Murder on the Orient Express with the excellent Kenneth Branagh as Poirot - but he just doesn't cut it.  He just felt 'wrong'.   David Suchet is a hard act to follow in that role.  I feel the same about Daniel Craig as Bond.   Sean Connery or Roger Moore he ain't.

Which actors do you think have been entirely miscast in movies?

My wife enjoyed the Agatha Raisin series of books but thought Ashley Jensen was all wrong in the tv series.

TTT is it Netflix or Prime - I agree though it is excellent and far more suitable casting

I watched a Reacher series on Prime.

Yes Prime, not netflix

Margaret Rutherford as MissMarple - just not right

Adam Dalgleish, the PD James detective, was always Roy Marsden for me, much as I like Martin Shaw he seemed wrong and the other one, Bertie Carvel, was even worse.

Branagh was poor as Poirot but he has a history of taking a character and trying to reinvent it, why he thought he could play Wallender is way beyond me.

Rowan Atkinson as Maigret - risible.

I agree with captain2 re Rebus and Ken Stott - when I read the books that was exactly how I visualised Rebus. John Hannah was just not right - too young and too 'unlived in'

although holmes will (like others) always be basil rathbone, henry cavil did a good job in the enola holmes films

I think Damien Lewis could make a good Holmes

I agree with you about Brannagh. He's just not Poirot. I thought Albert Finney was good in the 1970s film.

I agree with Barry1010 on Agatha Raisin. She's so not how she comes across  in the books. I see her as more like Alexandra Shulman; a fashion type, but a little bit frumpy, too.

I can't bear to watch Suchet's mimsying and the silly moustache. I guess KB wanted to put his own stamp on the role, but that dead squirrel strapped to his face didn't help at all.

Roger Moore played Bond too comedically. I actually thought George Lazenby a good choice.

Steve Martin should never have been cast as Inspector Clouseau, he was dreadful.

Miscast ?

I'm surprised Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins hasn't turned up yet.

well it's not ike he's a character played by different people, like poirot, miss M or holmes, which is what this thread is about i think

//I'm alover of all things Rebus, but I can't watch the TV series with John Hannah. Rebus HAS to be played by Ken Stott, that's who I see/saw when I read the full series of books.//

Didn't Hannah's company initially have the rights to the Rebus books, hence his portrayal in the first series?  Stott is perfect for Rebus, I wonder if they'll make any more?

I have not seen Branagh as Poirot but in photographs his moustache looks like an oversized sprouting twig.
