I need to seriously declutter
Dinner services
Tea set
Crystal decanters
Crystal glasses
Soup and veg terrines
Etc
Rather than sell them but by bit I was thinking of taking them to a local auction.
How does it work? Any idea of the charges and are these even likely to sell?

Check your local auction house online. Their website will give details of charges, commission, etc., and will tell you how to go about putting your items up for sale with them.

Thanks spoken to an auction house 12% the same as eBay
They are off to them on Monday
You take your articles to an Auction company, they will explain how it works, and they will post to you the cheque for the sale.
12% is cheap - most charge at least 15% + VAT which totals 18%. And with a similar amount as buyers premium the auction house takes about 40% of the sale price. Still if you need to get rid of the stuff...
Some say that the auctioning business is a right racket and a million miles away from the cheery, cheeky, cheesy events seen on daytime TV.

Seller beware.
