They are quite good. Bit Gimicky. I am not one for living on chips but they do them well. You cannot eliminate oil for most cooking with them but you use less. To be fair I haven't experimented with ours too much but enjoy chicken wings with marinade and potato wedges are great. I could live without one but now I have it I will persevere.
Do they take a long time to cook chips?
I've got one. I probably wouldn't have bothered buying one but it was a present. I only use it for cooking fishcakes as they absorb so much oil when they are fried. It's ok but I wouldn't rave about it.
18 minutes. They are nicely browned on outside and hot and soft inside. That description sounds rather erotic. :-)

Mmmm, undecided whether to invest in one or not. Mr.Sam loves his fried Japanesy food.
Not sure about that though I think Spring Rolls can be cooked in them. I am hoping one of my Herbets might buy me an Air Fryer cookbook for Christmas so I can discover their true potential.
I've got one from Tefal. Living on my own, it does a single portion of chips using hardly any oil, in about twenty minutes.

The chips taste great.

You can cook pretty much anything in them without oil. I wouldn't be without ours, love, love, love it to death.
I've got a Breville Halo which cooks by a combination of hot air and infrared (or you can just choose infrared). it cooks excellent chips, and sautees in between 15-25 minutes (depending on the type of potato, whether or not you parboil them, how brown you like them, and how many you are cooking). When you first get one, you need to experiment a bit (I put more oil than they recommend - but we are still talking less than a tablespoonful). The main advantages are minimal smell, minimal mess, easy to clean (just wipe it out), and the fact that I can put it on for 15 minutes, go and do something else, and then just turn it on again while I prepare or cook something to go with the chips. I, like me, you live alone, it's an absolute boon (though it doesn't compare to the chips my late wife used to cook).

bought one, used it twice, washed it and it is back in the safety of a cupboard.

Oh dear. Mixed reviews. The fact that much less oil is used attracts me, and the smell. Mr Sam loves ( as do our gc) deep fried homemade spicey chicken nuggets, etc. I wonder how they, for example would turn out ?
I don't eat chips and use mine for pork /beef steaks and chicken breasts.Wouldn't be without it.
I think the key with these machines is to think of them not so much as 'fryers', but rather as small (but very powerful) fan ovens.

They do wonderful baked potatoes - the best I've ever cooked - and if you buy good quality sausages then you can lob them in with the baked spuds for the last 20 minutes or so & they're perfect too.

They heat up almost instantaneously, and the blast of red-hot air really does cook things very quickly and very well.

I agree that frozen wedges (hello Mr Aldi) are pretty good and fishfingers/cakes are excellent too.

I wouldn't be without mine - and gness now has two!!
