The car is registered on 24th March 2016.
Can I take the MOT on say 23rd March 2019?
Or I need to take it 28th Feb 2019 the latest?

I am trying to do some planning for the car service with the MoT date.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

You can take it in on March 23rd or anytime upto a month before that and still retain a March 23rd renewal date for future years.
I think you can do it a month before it is due.

Did you look here ?

https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot
Note, always best to do an MOT a week or more before it is due.

If you take it the day before it is due and it fails you may not have time to get the work done before the MOT runs out and you could then get fined for having no MOT.
The due date is the 23rd March. MOTs are not recorded by calendar month like the car tax. You can MOT it anytime thats convenient, but to retain the due date do it during March.

I had a car registered on 30th Dec. To get the MOT away from Christmas I did it in November and forgoed a month.
Guilbert, if it fails it fails. It is irrelevant if the previous year's MOT had not expired.
If you get the car MOT'd a month before it is due you effectively get a 13 month MOT, I always do this as my MOT is due on the 20th December and I much prefer to do it in November.

Correct, I get a reminder about 6 weeks before, still keep original date. Expires 10th April, MOT done early March and that expires 10th April.
Actually not a 13 month MOT. It is a 12 month as normal with one month left on existing one.
If you leave the MOT until its due date and it fails, you can't drive it away, it has no MOT.
If you get the test done early and it fails you can still drive it on the old MOT provided the car hasn't failed due to 'dangerous' problems and it is still roadworthy.

https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/after-the-test
Providing the reason for MoT failure is not "Dangerous" and the vehicle is roadworthy, you can continue to drive it until the previous MoT certificate expires.
I get an e mail from kwik fit, they are very good. Half the price at most other places, check them out. 10% offer on at the moment, worth a look. For the last 6 years they have never said unnecessary work needs doing.
I understand that an MOT certificate is only valid on the date of issue.

If brakes fails next day, no comeback.
