MOT is due when

Can any machanic or learned person tell me when my first MOT is due on my car.I bought my car in August 2002 and I thought you had the first 3years free then I would have to get it MOT in 2006,Now I have been told by a machanic friend that I have to get it MOT in 2005.Please someone help me.Thankyou.

The first MOT is due on the 3rd anniversary of registration, so for a 2002 car that will be 2005, 2002+3=2005

yeah i agree, if u got it in august 2002, then a one year mot runs out 2003 so a three year one cos it is new runs out 2005. i think u are not working your sums out right

August 2002 to August 2005 is 3 years.  After that you're starting on year 4.
