Nobody remembers who came second.
The loser.
I have a bet every day, Bazile, and i have to say, hand on heart, that if it weren't for the losses, the wins wouldn't be as special. So, for me, i guess it's the taking part. Though the occasional win does make taking part that much easier, both financially and from a confidence aspect:-)
Both...it can depend a lot on who your opponent is.
taking part.

Who won the human race? :-)
If it's me competing, then... the second.
Taking part mainly, winning is always a bonus.
Sqad.....the winners of the last pub quiz got two bottles of wine... my team came second and won the £300.....the annoyed winners certainly remember us..... ;-)

Baz....I am very competitive......but don't fret about losing....x
Not true sqad. I remember all 6 of Jimmy White's losing finals (5 of them on the trot!!). How could i forget them, I backed him in every one :-/
Nobody remembers who came second.

Henry Cooper
Susan Boyle

etc

Winner.
Taking part is what counts for me . Winning is a wonderful bonus.
Taking part, but hoping to win.
It just depends what it is and how important it is.
winning is not the important thing....
it is the only thing.

the more I practise the luckier I get ( Ilie Nastase and a few others)

// Nobody remembers who came second.//
alot of the time nbo one remembers who came first either

i used to co-run a sports team, and there was a very big divide between "funners" ad "winners". In my experience you needed both though
I never win anything so don't bother taking part :o(
Taking part that counts. Although I am a little competitive..
Both. If I do anything I usually try my best to be the absolute best at it I can be and to win if I can, but if someone beats me / is better than me at something then I'm just happy for them, it doesn't eat me up in a super competitive 'must win at all costs' sort of way, I can just throw away any importance it had as soon as I haven't won.
I like to win when playing Badminton, Trivial Pursuits and Articulate.

I'd also like to win when playing The National Lottery. :-)
