But I can ignore birdie (and I always do) but for the sake of the others (few) explanation is needed.

Anyone who can read English can understand it very easily. 39:53 is a general verse for people who believe in God alone but commit mistakes and sins. Whereas 4:168 starts with “Those who disbelieve”. That clearly speaks about people who are associating someone else with God or not believe in him at all, known as “Shirk” in Islam and the only sin that is not forgivable.

3:124 very clearly says “when you said to the believers”. And here God is talking about Muhammad (pbuh) saying to the followers that is it not sufficient that your lord “SHOULD” reinforce you……… Nowhere it says that your lord “DID”.

8:9 Speaks for itself as it says that remember when you “asked” help of your lord (as in 3:124)and he ANSWERED you………………….

I always knew that few people can’t read or understand Arabic but did not know that they can’t even tell the difference in future or past when it come to English. Or perhaps they do not want to.
It's all made up............
Why don't you try making up something like that then.

In the meantime I will go for Friday prayer and remember ONE AND ONLY GOD.
Keyplus, why would anyone with a sound mind or even a good command of English bother to 'make up' yet another holy book. Most people have better things to do with their time.
To answer you original question is simple . I don't believe a single of thing because they are a compilation of written and oral stories written many years after the events which were interpreted , reinterpreted, transcribed, translated ,reinterpreted , translated into dozens of languages , updated from the ancient script to old English . old Norse etc and further updated to modern languages. It is still happening look at the number of new English Bibles which are published. On top of all this each cult and branch of these religions have there own bible . RC, CofE, JW, Mormans , Armish , Sunni, Shia etc. , all with their own interpretations.
The original events were fiction created by would be leaders to sucker the gullible and they were highly successful.
Modeller, you seem to have a better grasp of this than Keyplus :-)
Modeller I've just come back to this question . I'd like to point out that my two previous answers were directed at Naomi's original question about beliefs - hence my point about "living things are free to choose what to believe" - in the context of human beings believing ( or not ) every single word of the bible / koran .
Seeing as you brought plants into the debate you might like to ponder whether or not plants "believe" that the sun will make them grow , that is why they turn and bend towards the sunlight .
Modeller I'm not asking you to agree with anything I've said but please treat Naomi's question and people's attempted answers to it with due respect .
If there is a "smart alec" comeback along the lines of "What religion are the plants then..." I shall just ignore it . The question deserves better than that .

Keyplus, //I believe in all of the Quran and do not believe that there are any contradiction in it //

That ^^ is exactly what I meant when I indicated that honest answers from believers are rather thin on the ground around here. You are not being honest – and you know it – just as you know, but consistently deny, that the science of the Koran is utter bunkum. That aside, if it helps you, for the purposes of this question let’s look at something rather simpler than Birdie’s valid example.

Only one of the two contradictory statements below can possibly be correct, so which one don’t you believe?

A day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning. (Koran 22:47)

The angels and the Spirit ascend unto him in a day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years. (Koran 70:4)

////Modeller, you seem to have a better grasp of this than Keyplus :-)////

You said the above in response to Modeller’s this post,

////On top of all this each cult and branch of these religions have there own bible . RC, CofE, JW, Mormans , Armish , Sunni, Shia etc. , all with their own interpretations.////

Very clearly Modeller does not even know that Sunni or Shia do not believe in Bible but still you favoured his post over mine for a very well-known reason.

Naomi – We have to agree first of all about birdie “valid example” before we can jump onto anything else. Birdie posted verses from Quran and very easily I explained that it is just because he could not differentiate between two events. As for your original question I have answered but obviously you do not agree with that and that is nothing new. First of for very well-known reason (you are learning from birdie) you have posted half of the verse. Because the first half (you decided to omit) gives reference to the punishment when few nonbelievers used to ask Muhammad (pbuh) that when the punishment will come. Here is the complete verse and it is just telling that period what human believe is different that what Allah knows. No wonder we move or clocks forward and backward and length of day changes.

22:47 Yet they ask thee to hasten on the Punishment! But Allah will not fail in His Promise. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning.

Whereas the other verse talks about an entirely different aspect. About a period that it takes to angels to ascend to God. And most importantly (as I said before) you have no knowledge of Arabic. Although it will not make any difference but let me tell you that word “Yom” in Arabic means period, day, era and so on. What if I say that a pigeon takes 10 days to reach Spain and a jet takes few hours of the day. Would that change the length of the day? But you will never understand because you do not want to. OK bring in the next one.
"Why don't you try making up something like that then".

I would need the time, the inclination and the desire to control, I have none of these. Give me a good historical book any day.

"In the meantime I will go for Friday prayer and remember ONE AND ONLY GOD."

.......but many religions. How do you reconcile this? Are they all right, or is just one religion right, leaving a lot of disappointed and hell bound people?

Precisely. No, it wouldn’t. You’ve rather shot yourself in the foot with that example, Keyplus. Perhaps you would like to try again.
keyplus #Very clearly Modeller does not even know that Sunni or Shia do not believe in Bible but still you favoured his post over mine for a very well-known reason. #

keyplus I have read the Koran the Hadith and discussed it with a number of hajis. and studied a number of papers on that very point, and given talks on a better understanding of Islam.

Whilst I hesitate to argue with you a practising Muslim , I know Islam like Judaism and Christianity are founded on the Old Testament . Ishmael first son of Abram was the father of the Arab people and established the Kaaba which was the pre-Islamic shrine . Christ is an important prophet second only to Muhammad (pbuh ). So you can not say they do not believe in the bible it is the rock on which Islam is built. Our three peoples are known as People of the Book . The book being the bible. If you deny the bible you are also denying Islam .

If I am misinformed please let me know I am only too pleased to update my knowledge .
Kyplus, would you care to advance the cause of islam and tranlsate the following quotation into modern English. Couched as it is in archaic form of 'biblical' English its clarity leaves a lot to be desired.
//22:47 Yet they ask thee to hasten on the Punishment! But Allah will not fail in His Promise. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a thousand years of your reckoning.//
argostran It was you who widened the debate when you wrote God the creator of life and Living things.............. That embraces all organic things.
What is more Naomi did not specify humans . She said anything in the bible .

#I believe in God the creator of life . Living things can think , evolve , develop , change , grow and are free to choose what to believe - that is the whole point of life - otherwise God might just as well have created , say , a stone.

Your example of a flower turning towards the light is a chemical response the same as roots go down in response to gravity . There is no thought process involved . In fact you can create artificial gravity and cause the roots to go any direction you like . These are examples in biology of tropism not choice.
Keyplus - “... But I can ignore birdie (and I always do)...”

But you didn't did you? You attempted to counter my argument. Are you really so stupid that you think that you can proclaim to ignore my posts whilst addressing the arguments contained within them?

Are you really that stupid?
I believe in miracolis
Keyplus - “... I always knew that few people can’t read or understand Arabic but did not know that they can’t even tell the difference in future or past when it come to English. Or perhaps they do not want to...”

After reading your above post, I can only conclude that you are a moron. This is not a question of translation, it is a question of logic – a concept that I know you're unfamiliar with. It's lamentable to watch an otherwise rational human being jump though mental hoops to prop up his own beliefs.

It's all rather tragic and pathetic.
I don't believe that Jesus was the son of God (I am not Jewish) but I do believe that Jesus set an example for mankind. Do unto others as you would have done to yourself, Judge not lest ye be judged and occasionally walk on water. But seriously Jesus WAS GOOD !
Oh well that's you sussed on another site then thenry.
Sorry mate but jesus is evil
