I haven't found a single scientific proof to prove that atheists exist. I've seen plenty of anecdotal evidence but no solid proof. So all you argumentative no-God-loving types should stand up and show proof they exist. Bonus points for showing proof God doesn't exist.

Claiming you're an atheist is anecdotal. I want real, solid, and scientific proof sustainable in a laboratory environment.

Coldicote "If belief brings peace of mind then so be it and don't deny it to others" I agree I think you would find the great majority of Atheists would agree also.

However, this belief is inflicted upon us in our daily lives. Never a day go's by without some cleric espousing about this or that on a news programme. Never a disaster comes and go's without talk of miracles despite many deaths.

You can have you views as long as I may have mine.
Davethedog, I'm free for a bit smiting on Sunday, I'm planning a visit to some heavenly virgins on Friday, I may be able arrange a few public stonings as well, it appears that there a few unmarried women that have had sex, they must be stoned promptly, the HUSSIES!!!!
Coldicot, this is the problem!!

>>>>Many people have a deeply felt need for some kind of God/power of life and death to believe in<<<<<<

Why do they have this "need" ? arent you supposed to choose this god through love not need!!

If people choose a God through "need" they surely have something going on that needs to be addressed, God wont do that, God is just a security blanket for them.
You have misunderstood Ratter.

God will grant you everything you need when you get to heaven. Meanwhile you just have to abandon your own hopes and dreams and pursue those designated by the church.

You just need the faith and patience.
surely, beso, it would be better to strive for everything you need yourself, now, while you are on Earth, while you know you are in control, than blindly wait in the hope that, one day, god will sort you out, maybe, if he exists, of which there is no proof.
Are you saying god promotes laziness?
In my world, without a god, if I want money I work harder, if I want love I act as a good boyfriend, if I want my family to be happy and well, I do what I can to make that happen.
If I forget about my beliefs and follow the 'god' path, I just let whatever happen and wait it out, in the meantime I could be skint, unloved and my family left to struggle without my help.
It seems like an obvious choice to me!
Bertrand Russell was adamant that people who argued for God as a "first cause" were illogical because if God created the universe then something must have created God. Unfortunately however the current "Big Bang" theorists believe that the universe came into existence out of nothing :) Hmm

God bless
That leap from assuming a first cause to concluding a need to create a first cause, was quite an assumption by Bertrand then. Maybe he hadn't quite got back to the actual first cause in his mind. It's a bit like trying to visualise the infinitesimal. If you think it can be split, you aren't there yet.
Indeed Pa____ul.

I guess you are new to this section or you would have realised my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek.
If an atheist kicked you in the nuts I bet you'd be convinced he existed.
The Universe (or what really preceded it, I call it the Omniverse) coming form nothing is not an issue.

As we observe in the fundamental laws of thermodynamics, the Omniverse seeks to mimimise both energy and order.

With an infinite expanse it take significant order to produce a perfect nothing so something appearing instead of nothing is not only likely but inevitable. A little bit of order and energy in some places is a lower energy and order state than a perfect nothing.
Ratter can you smite Cowtippers knackers on Sunday to prove that Athiests exist.

This is Tuddys idea
Ah but who says you started with an infinite expanse? Where did that come from?
Shhhhh, Beso...

this is religion, physics and logic doesn't come into it :)
And thats it in a nutshell isn't it.

Science says we don't have an answer, we will continue looking.

Religion says we don't have an answer, god did it.
I should have known beso, sorry! my sarcy radar's not working today!
Isn't the only proof we have of any of us existing is that we are thinking about it? Or have I missed the point.

Ah but who says you started with an infinite expanse? Where did that come from?

It arises naturally from the lack of boundaries. Not only no spacial boundaries but no boundaries whatsoever on the number of potential dimensions. We just ended up with four (or ten if you accept String Theory).
after reading this thread and having a my lunch, i now believe i have found god. i saw him at the bottom of a pint of landlord. the glass was magically refilled when i returned so

a) i must have pleased god, presumably by finding him
b) miracles do happen (dave from accounts bought a round)
You have to be lying! I simply can not believe an accountant would buy a round.
Ankou,
I see you have impeccable taste in beer
