I've only just got up so yes ;-))
Nope. They're all 23hrs 56mins and 4.1 seconds.
New Years’ Day maggie! And the light is already changing!

Happy solstice.

Bill
Yes maggie it is the winter solstice today in the Northern Hemisphere. From tomorrow the daylight gets longer.
That must be why my clock is always wrong Zacs,
Yay! Been looking forward to this date for 6 months.
I saw bulbs coming through in the park the other day.
I quite like the dark if I don't have to go outside :-)

And that's only because of the street lights. They've turned them off on one side of the street and the new ones they've installed throw shadows which isn't great for clumsy people.
The shortest and longest days are the last Sundays in March and October when the clocks go back and forward.
Google confirms 22.23 tonight for the solstice
I think its still 24 hours Maggie ;-)
Yes October is always the longest month :-)
Jackdaw // The shortest and longest days are the last Sundays in March and October when the clocks go back and forward.//

The longest day ( daylight) is June 21 st the summer solstice.
The shortest day (daylight) is the Winter solstice on 21 st December.

ichkeria -I don't need google to tell me when the solstice is -I'm Pagan, its one of our Festivals.
Shortest daytime hours, longest nighttime hours, I would have been married 33 years today,, strange that I remember marriage date but not the divorce one lol
My brother, Alex, longest day birthday, 21/06.

My youngest son, Alex, shortest day, 21/12.
Last Sunday in March has 23 hours. Last Sunday in October has 25 hours.
Well, in common with our many ancestors, Mrs B and I celebrate our New Year today - far more logical than the Christian festival next week, or the end of December after that.

Happy New Year to all my loyal readers...

yup - nope

day has two meanings - we have had this before you know - depends on where it comes from ( norf a sarf - sozza AB speak intruding there)

day can come from dies - Latin - forrin to a lot of Abers here - dies irae, dies illa, that sort of stuff
24 h every day

but also - day as in
open during the day
and open day and night - this sense comes from the Norf apparently even tho Friday is 24h long. anyway that is what they say

and if you take the sense in the second sense
then it really really is..... the shortest day
Theland its my daughters birthday today. My other daughter was due on the 21nd june but did not arrive until 5th July.
We look for patterns don't we?
Maybe nothing to it. But ...........?
