It's the shortest day of the year on Sunday (21st) By how much does the daylight change each day? Is it for example 1 minute earlier at dawn and 1 minute later at nightfall. As you can tell, I'm longing for the time when I actually see home in daylight and it's not pitch dark when I leave and the same when I get home!

You're not far out, actually.

For Cambridge, December 2008 the lighting up times are:

1st - 7:43 and 3:51
2nd - 7:44 and 3:50
3rd - 7:46 and 3:49
4th - 7:47 and 3:49
5th - 7:48 and 3:48
6th - 7:49 and 3:48
7th - 7:51 and 3:47

31st - 8:05 and 3:56

This gives you an idea of the pattern on the days shortening and lengthening
