Good on the Aussies for getting this specimen out of their country. Perhaps he'll now organise another superspreader tennis tournament in his native land. Good riddance.

what's the feeling in Australia Oz ?
Well, yes.
His mum said he’s being held like a prisoner.
No, Novak, you can get on the next plane back to Serbia whenever you like. The sooner, the better IMO.

Why should he be allowed when others would not be allowed? Give him permission and the flood gates are opened and it would rules for some but not for others. His money and fame should be of no importance in this matter.
Clover..I'd rather like being held captive in a 5 * hotel with room service !! lol
I would happily be your captor Minty ;-)

End result, from what I've read is aus tennis and vic state government stuffed up.
So did the Joker and his well paid team.

Bad luck!!!
there seems to be a bit of inter-state confusion and disparity ???
Historically Serbians have been known to over react.
Clover - He can't leave when he wants, he's in a quarantine hotel - he can leave when the authorities say he can leave.
I'm sure if he declared an intention to go home the authorities will comply and make arrangement for him expeditiously
What he can't do is leave his hotel room until he either decides to drop the appeal or the appeal is heard. That's not going to do a lot for his fitness/training regime.
bhg - that applies to everyone. He may not be the only one wanting to exercise. He just has to follow the rules.
his apparent arrogance in thinking because he is the defending champion that therefore entitles him to circumnavigate the rules is ..to me...astounding
set up a medical centre at airports..not vaccinated ? here have the jab ! no ? turn round and home with you !!
Minty - agreed. He is only important in his little world of tennis.
I can see both sides here: whatever you think of Djokovic, he apparently did have a medical exemption, as indeed do other less prominent individuals associated with the tournament. And he was granted a visa. Sounds like the Australian PM, now noting the strength of feeling, and with elections on the way, has muscled in, not for the first time.
On the other hand if Djokovic really doesn’t have the required exemption then he should not be allowed to play. That I think was always the case anyway.
I don’t think he was “circumventing the rules”.
It’s a question of “show us proof if your exemption” No proof, no play
In the land of Oz all states make their own rules.
What some forget is they must comply with the country as a whole.
I think Victoria stuffed up, as did Tennis Australia!
So did the Jokers highly paid team.
If you as important as the Joker thinks he is then your support team should be capable of complying with the laws of every country you wish to make millions out of.
To quote TTT "end of"
;-)
//he apparently did have a medical exemption//

I've seen no evidence of that. From what I've read he's into alternative medicine and has some quite way out ideas.
as I understand he had no "medical" exemption..he simply chooses not to have it ! game set and match.. go home !
I do wonder with countries like Australia, New Zealand and China, and indeed other isolated outposts or authoritarian regimes, the extent to which they are unwittingly storing up problems for themselves in future. I guess they are relying on vaccinations to hold the fort until the pandemic has passed. But there’ll be no or very little natural immunity built up
