Good on the Aussies for getting this specimen out of their country. Perhaps he'll now organise another superspreader tennis tournament in his native land. Good riddance.

“ as I understand he had no "medical" exemption..he simply chooses not to have it ! game set and match.. go home”

Incorrect: he was granted exemption by a medical panel of Tennis Australia but the state of Victoria apparently now questions that, so either the tennis folk have messed up or the state border control is kowtowing to state or federal pressure. It depends on whether the exemption was feasible and within the (rather lax) regulations. That’s the issue.
Djokovic is not blameless, but I do sympathise to an extent as it sounds like he’s been caught up in Aussie politics. How much of that is his own fault is I think is unclear
ichkeria as I understand he has no "medical" condition to be exempt on such grounds therefore that should never have been considered and granted at all..he has alternative thoughts and opinions ..not a medical condition that could ever be considered reasonable grounds
and I rather agree that inter state politics is also at play... but nevertheless..thems the rules for everyone.."no comply no entry"
Ah but we don’t know that.
I don’t care much for the bloke and deplore his attitude to vaccines but if Tennis Australia’s medical folk looked at this honestly and scientifically then it’s not his fault if they came down in his favour. I think there’s some get-out that says you don’t need a vaccination if you’ve had Covid in the last six months. But we don’t know the reasons I believe.

//I do wonder with countries like Australia, New Zealand and China, and indeed other isolated outposts or authoritarian regimes//

Good to see we're all in the same boat itchy.
You need a geography lesson.
Tar brush comes to mind
may not be his fault..but he has a management team and resources to ensure his arrangements conditions etc are in place and that he is fully in keeping with their country's take on this before he travelled...any doubts..don't travel..perhaps he will review his management team's abilities..and his own opinions and take on the pandemic more to the point... the ordinary Oz having to comply is quite rightly up in arms about exemptions being handed out on status and not for the correct reasons..medically speaking
..as for the 6 months rule..I don't believe that exists ..one has an element of immunity after infection but that is untried and untested sufficiently to allow any such exception

I don’t think so ;-)

As for Djokovic he applied for a visa and got one. It’s not as if he pitched up uninvited
see my response above ^^
And he's missing out on Serbia's Xmas Day!! Says his wife who is living in Monte Carlo with the kids!
Yes I read it thank you and I was replying.
His visa came from the Australian authorities.
His is not the only exemption by the way and I now believe other players visas are being investigated
lol Sharon.. patriotic to the last...NOT !
as they ought to be Ich... I think there is a bit of inter state conflict and niggle going on and it needs to be sorted ..for everyone's sake !
The Xmas day thing is odd.
Serbs don’t help themselves sometimes
But be honest: are you motivated by dislike of a person here?
If Djokovic’s exemption is shown to be unreasonable then fair enough.
Examine the paper, make it clear it’s unreasonable and act accordingly
Or declare it valid and allow him to play
Why don’t they do that
not me Ich ...I strongly believe in parity of treatment and rules are in place for reasons.... status..and tantrums should not be considered.. he demonstrated his contempt early on by participation/arranging super spreader events.... as one who has been ill twice and still has not inconsiderable Long Covid issues ..this arrogance is breathtaking
I think there may be behind the scene political argy bargy going on ^^^
I agree. Like I say I deplore his attitude. But he allegedly has a get out which is not his fault: unless of course somehow his side applied pressure.
There’s much we don’t know.
According to the global sports editor for Reuters;

"The visa Novak Djokovik was using to gain entry to Australia was the same one used by three other tennis players already granted permission, sources close to Oz Open tell Reuters."

Anyone know if they're being deported, too?
