Good on the Aussies for getting this specimen out of their country. Perhaps he'll now organise another superspreader tennis tournament in his native land. Good riddance.

as for the World Cup 2022.. well.....
Note that the exemption was reviewed twice by authorities from outside the world of tennis.
My guess is the six month rule was something to do with it but either way the argument shoujd be with them not the player
Lots of world sporting events are taking place without an issue. Including the Ashes, worst luck for England ;-)
alas the end result stops at the player regardless of all the kerfuffle that precedes the process...
The fact that Djokovic coukd have avoided all this by getting vaccinated is self-evident, but doesn’t really get anyone anywhere
As a digression it’s amazing to think no Australian has won this tournament since 1976. That’s the equivalent of the stage Wimbledon was at with regard to local success in 1982
The days of Roy Emmerson, Rod Laver, John Newcombe, I remember them well, ich.
Nadal has it in one .... Australia can't treat anyone "better" because of status..expect trouble if they do !!
legal sources are being quoted as saying Djokovic will be playing in the "open", because it could take months for his immigration appeal to be concluded, and the judge is very likely to release him pending a decision.
I’d say that’s right mushroom. It’s a mess but honestly it’s largely one of Australia’s own making. They made the rules, they applied them or bent them depending on what you believe.
Djokovic counsel have avoided all this by not being “awkward” it’s quite true, but Australia could have said “no” to him at the very start. I really don’t know enough to say who’s right, so that’s why as I said at the start I can see both sides.
This player has already been 'warming up' for the tournament by playing doubles in Melbourne and has been in the country since last month!

this story says he applied for exemption on the grounds that he'd recently had Covid and the government approved it (that's the federal government, not Victoria)

I have no idea whether that's a good reason or not, but the Australian government seems to have done a screeching U-turn. That suggests he's followed all the rules, it's the Aussies who have screwed up.
my prediction, Djokovic wins aussie open 2022 . . .
As a fellow human I feel a bit sorry for Djokovic with what he’s going through now. I know he’s rich and famous etc, but he’s just trying to do his job. (Yes I know other people are suffering)

I am no fan of his though and hope he is prevented from playing in the Aus Open because of his Covid-belief nonsense

I’m more concerned about the way he being treated by the various people in charge who are acting over the ‘public outcry’. If the rules apply use them. Don’t bend this way and that way according to who’s shouting the loudest.
Fascinating - so Novax now claims a **very** convenient PCR positive on 16th Dec - which then begs the question as to what he was doing on 17th Dec going maskless to an event with loads of youngsters ...

Perhaps famous people should learn to check their own social media posts, before getting a tame government to retrospectively pony up a test result on a useful date?
The whole saga's become a Djok.
