Gulliver, this virus could go on for years if not decades (though I seriously hope not). Are you proposing we lockdown forever?

We may have to learn to live with this virus whilst we mitigate with vaccines, social distancing, face masks, diligence to hygiene and, fingers crossed, herd immunity.

We can't stay locked up for the rest of our lives.
When the majority of those seriously affected are the unvaccinated, it becomes a huge incentive for the undecided to hold their arms out... As for the rest as far as I am concerned their right to choose should also be reflected in society having the right to refuse them access to the rest of us. Unfortunately the core of those refusing seem to be from certain ethnic brother minority groups so any exclusions will likely mean protests on ground of race/religion/ whatever else they choose to highlight when it is really about being socially responsible or not. I would still consider some restrictions in terms of proving vaccination or covid negative tests for all indoor events and trying to minimise foreign travel up to banning it for the unvaccinated if further variants cause problems
OK dave, that is fine, a lot of people would agree with you and I do not condemn you for taking that point of view.

That was the choice 16 months ago, herd immunity OR isolate and wait for the vaccines and the Government and the public were mainly in favour of the latter and deaths have been avoided.

Mistakes have been made by both government and public.

NJ will be along shortly to support you -;0

gully: "I think he ought to impose more restrictions due to the fear of the Delta Variant spreading, especially enforcing the wearing of masks." - for someone who doesn't live here you seem to have an inordinate amount of interest me old china.
sqad: "So dave......lift all restrictions and see what happens......is that your remedy?" - I'm a yep too on that. We should continue with vaccination apace and then get boosters organised and accept that like the common cold this virus will always be with us. We should introduce strictvaccination proof mechanisms everywhere and shut out the THB until they get a braincell installed, end of.

We now will have not herd immunity but heard resilience.
All over 18s have been offered the vax & will get the second dose pretty soon. Anyone who doesn't take it should know they are at risk & accept the consequences. The rest of us can't be confined because of a few idiots.
bang on dave.
Hi Sqad
Boris seems to be prepared to let it rip in the school population as the mortality is so low ( but still gtr than vaccination)

BUT - no one has told Matron or the Head Master - or Miss, and they are sending home, classes, years if one test positive - - but there is an economic on-cost to this as Mummy and Daddy are now back at work and there is no one to look after the little blighter

and no one foresaw that

If the vaccines work like they say it does on all the present variants then there's only one way to find out, open up, if it works great, tuf sh*** on the rest of them, you had your chance. If you've not had the vaccine then expect to be excluded and restricted from what you want to do, or were you want to go, unless your present health condition stops you from having it, doctors notes could be given for the latter.
PP - at least not ALL my offerings are "absolute crap"!
dunno why PeePee is exempt from the rules TBH.
No doubt those calling for the restrictions to continue are financially secure. I'm alright Jack.
TC 11:01 also bang on, expect PeePee to insult you now.
If PP could string a coherent sentence together he might be worth "listening" to.
Hi! PP

dave NJ et al have raised good points, eloquently presented and rewarded in the usual AB fashion......-;) however a decision has to be made taking into consideration commerce, jobs, livelihood and mental issues.
At the same time dealing with the battle of the prevailing virus against the vaccine.

That is the decision that has tobe made against a background of rising number of cases and the prospects of 60,000 for the Football final at Wembley.

I have grave concerns if all restrictions are lifted.

dave: //If PP could string a coherent sentence together he might be worth "listening" to.// - let me know if it ever happens.
And don't forget its not just about the vaccine. Eventually, there'll be decent drugs to fight it as there were against the AIDS virus.
