Just read that Bill Maynard, the lovable scoundrel Greengrass from Heartbeat has died aged 89. Believe he worked for 81 years.

How sad, he was a fine actor. RIP.
Never watched Heartbeat but do remember him as Selwyn Froggit. RIP, Bill.
He was a loveable rogue in Heartbeat. RIP.
Very sad. Anybody else old enough to remember him in Great Scott it's Maynard (with Terry Scott)?
Another name ever present it seems during my growing up.

RIP Bill.
Sad news, I liked him, RIP Bill.
sad to hear of this, he was blooming brilliant as Greengrass.

RIP Mr Maynard
He was a great actor. I remember The Gaffer, very funny.
We passed his car (with him sticking out the sunroof) when he switched on the Blackpool lights back in the late 70's
He'd been struggling with mobility for some time. Youngest sprog worked as a 'gofer' on the Heartbeat one summer and she said he was very kind. R.I.P.
I don't think I've ever seen more than one or two programmes on the telly with Bill Maynard in them. However I did get drunk with him in a pub once!

Nice guy.
I'm sure he was a very nice guy, but why do we have RIP threads for minor celebs in News. Surely this is Chatterbank fodder.
And why RIP? Once you're dead you're dead. There's no resting in peace involved.
I collided with him as we rounded the corner of the John Menzies kiosk in Waverley Station many, many moons ago.
Big lad.
Methinks Desk diary got out of wrong side of bed this morning!?
Also seems like a good time to pass on my badge indicating cynical sourpuss.

Wear it with pride DD. :-)
RIP Bill.
Met him once at Villa park many years ago, lovely chap ( he was playing in 'The Gaffer' back then. Villa v Leicester City, he was a Leicester City fan.
Always liked Bill. He seemed such a laugh and a nice guy too. He will be missed. RIP Bill.
Yes I heard of him but it seems a long time.We seem to be losing a lot of good people in the entertainment industry now.
