I don't normally bother watching films on TV any longer, its pretty obvious that producers have one goal in mind, to cram as much violence in as possible in the hope of capturing an audience.

In view of what's been happening in the news over the last few weeks, out of curiosity I watched what I knew would be a violent film, ( Dog Eat Dog ) Nicolas Cage, and it didn't disappoint as regards to the appalling violence at the very beginning, of a knife stabbing frenzy, along with a shooting, and the violence continued throughout the whole film.

The other film also I watched was ( The November man ) Pierce Bronson, again relied on knife stabbing, and continued violence. Is it a case of, you make your own bed, so sleep in it?
Also I think that Mary Whitehouse back in 1963/64 was very advanced in her thoughts, and condemned / opposing such violence on TV. These films are not doing us any favours getting violence into the minds of already unbalanced individuals, are they?? Your thoughts would be welcome.

Teacake44 you are correct in your opinions re violent tv and films. People will argue with you and quote various statistical nonsense. The fact is monkey see monkey do. Though it does depend upon the monkey. Exposure to the sickening carp peddled as entertainment devalues moral integrity, and desensitisation is inevitable, I emphasis to some, people.

I have not denied that an unbalanced individual may be further unbalanced and I have stressed both parental control and education of the young.

You know your own children and their level of maturity (not always equal to the number on their birthday card), if you know they can separate things out then you may allow a greater leeway in what they watch.

There was recently a series on TV of Mothers who were attempting to get Porn to at least show some respect for women as they had discovered what their boys were watching and how it could lead to a very skewed view of life when dating etc.

The accessibility today is instant and of course a lot of underground unregulated stuff out there, but throwing our arms up and crying 'Ban' won't help.
same reason peple watch horror movies, bit like a roller coaster ride.

So lets just carry on corrupting young minds, and ignoring ALL the possible causes, put our heads in the sand as they say, and hope its goes on its way. Just keep on being alarmed, and shocked every day and chatter about on AB every day. That should do the trick for now, until it happens to you or your family.
Teacake, thank you for telling me/us what we'll all be doing. PS You've got it wrong!
That isn't what I do at all and have no intentions of starting now.
I view pornography. Does that make me a sadist/rapist/abuser? No
I view violent action/thriller movies. Does that make me a serial killer? No
I view Harry Potter. Does that make me a wizard? No.
Silly, stupid and fallacious arguments....

Getting yourself wound up and taking a superior attitude is not helping your case at all.
Teacake - what is it you want done? Ban everything that you think incites violent behaviour, enforce viewing of Downton Abbey to ensure genteel behaviour is instilled in the ‘young’? What are you doing to stop the corruption of young minds other than posting on here?

So its good for Pierce Bronson to hold a knife to the upper leg of a female to show if he cuts her there she will bleed to death in seconds, and in the film he did, so that makes a suitable film to watch. Its ok, and we don't need to do anything about the internet showing how to build a bomb, or how to commit suicide, that's all good and its doing no harm?

And the So Rule strikes again!!!
People were doing *** things long before film or the internet came along.
If it bothers you that much stop watching it or join Mediawatch-UK and campaign for change, wringing your hands and having a fit of the vapours is not going to change anything.

Teacake, I'll say it again..
I watch porn, thrillers and Harry Potter.

This is getting very erratic, you have now brought bomb making and suicide videos into the mix.

I agree with Sherr, join or start a campaign.

You've got no reason to be either. So what you bothered about what other people do?
