Impressive

I'd bet a fair percentage of these "lost and stolen" devices would be found alive and well in the homes of some of these people who made the claims

If they charged the employees for every item they lost I'm sure the number going missing would be greatly reduced or suddenly found again.
785 laptops tablets and mobile phones over 3 years

There are 20,000 BBC employees

so that's a 1.3% loss rate

Is that really so impressive?

I wonder how the Civil service scores on this front - (MI5 seem to lose a fair few in taxis and Tapas bars!)
Do all 20 000 BBC employees have gadgets? I would hope not in which case your figures are the usual twisting of the facts by using percentages Jake.

The loss of phones I can buy - sort of if their regulations/guidliines are a bit lax. That many laptops is very dodgy. If this was in a large corporation someones head would be rolling. I am not saying losses do not occur, they do but in every company I have worked for if you loose something like this you get a very uncomfortable ride. Even when you break the phone (I know from experience) it is not pleasant.

If there has been a marked increase then something should be done.
I didn't say they did - although phones are included in this and because it's a Broadcast organisation I'd expect a higher proportion of mobile devices than say an Insurance company

You'd want to compare to an organisation like SKY say to see if that number was extraordinary but companies like that don't reveal such information so we don't know.

At least the Guardian has supplied context in that the number that there has been a big spike in the last year

What happened in 2012? - the BBC did it's big move up to Salford - so actually that spike's not that surprising really is it?

Move that size an organisation and you're going to see a number of losses and thefts

the other point you've somewhat glossed over is

//The figures include personal property lost by BBC staff that would not be covered by licence fee funds.//

So yes I'm sure something will be done

They won't relocate again next year

@JTP

have you got a degree in tosh or something similar

Well baz

jtp's posts have raised several relevant points in the debate

your OP and subsequent 'comment' have contributed one unfounded accusation and an adolescent personal insult

Based on that evidence, it seems some people don't qualify for the course in 'Tosh' and go straight for the CSE in 'school yard moron'

"one unfounded accusation and an adolescent personal insult "

adolescent personal insult

no, its a statement of fact
when working there many moons ago, someone walked, or wheeled out the door a grand piano, it wasn't missed for some time...
/adolescent personal insult no, its a statement of fact /

baz

please explain how this is a statement of fact

/have you got a degree in tosh or something similar/
