Never smile? Standard confident stride down the runway, half turn, pause, stride back, and a look thoughout that says "I hate this job. Will it never end?"

Because you're supposed to be looking at their clothes and not at their grinning gurning faces??
Because they are clothes horses. It's all about the clothes.
They don't eat enough calories to get the energy required to be able to lift the corners of their mouths...
As it was summed up by a designer in last nights episode of ANTM - ' you are a clothes hanger - I want my clothes looked at not you'
Whats ANTM?
America's next top model
Bad teeth?
If I was wearing this, I'd be laughing hysterically.

I thought it was ,good me tits are out again look.
Naomi Cambell did break into a grin when she fell off her high heels!! did you see that?? ... hilarious!
Maybe they do hate their jobs
Well if I was being paid that sort of money, I'd wear whatever expression the person who was paying me deemed fit!
I think it is because they are concentrating so hard on balancing the ridiculous heels, and are simultaneously working out where to invest their latest wedge.
And being hungry most of the time wouldn't put them in a smiley disposition.
well, whenever i walk 20 feet and back again i can say i get terribly excited about it either ... it gets a bit samey...

as others say - they are not there to 'perform', they are not the star, they are just an animated mannequin.

i would imagine the designer gives some kind of uinstruction as to their level of input and performance - depending on the clothes, some want the models to dance about and laugh and interact etc, others want seriousness etc
Strangely, they do seem to smile sometimes:

It depends on the designers. Some want their models to have serious faces so that the clothes will be taken seriously. Others like Betsy Johnson just let their models have fun!

Some designers want whole performances from the models. Alexander McQueen's shows were brilliant! A good example was his 2001 S/S Asylum show. The models had bandaged heads and everything :-)

I miss him as a designer :-(
