My smoke alarms have started bleeping intermittently.
when prodded for testing the alarm goes off. Does this mean they are not functioning properly or that the battery is low. If I remember correctly the battery cannot be replaced and the whole unit needs replacement. They have been in place approx. 6 years.

Any information much apprecicated.

Thank you.

when ours bleep, it's because the battery needs replacing. We just take the back off, depends on which model you have.
The battery is going, so replace the battery or the unit, which ever is required.
caution. it must be an alkaline battery for a smoke alarm
You may well have a rechargeable lithium battery that has come to the end of its life. You may have to replace the whole thing.
What's the make and model?
Is it an Aico?
