... and when you have drank the wine you can make a table lamp with the bottle .. doesn't that zestiness suggest dryness chris ?
Stick with the vino cheapo - Lambrini or Lambrusco. White, fizzy and sweet.

Thank you janbee
No specific info, but look on the dessert wine shelf at the supermarket.
You didn't say if it was red or white wine.
If RED and you have a supermarket with wines from different countries in sections, I would firstly look at wines from Greece and Israel which tend to be sweeter.
This wine from Bordeaux,La Flora Blanche, is sweet but not sickly, not cheap but please please don't buy your guest lambrini its dreadful!

do you want it really sweet and sticky, or light and sweet, how about sparkly and sweet, or with a hint of a sourer note. Any food being offered? Any budget in mind?
And yes, any Lambrini/Lambrusco is shiiite.

I will go with a Sauterne as per janbee's suggestion. You can't better this French one.

I wouldn't touch the two Italian ones .
well, light and sweet go for a German riesling wine esp a Kabinett or Spatlese wine (grade of wine in the Moselle), some interesting ones from Luxembourg too....French, there are some nice sauternes but don't discount some rose sweets from Provencal. Italians - go for the Proseccos, Spanish Cavas.....and Americans the White Zinfandel wines.....for truly exceptional wines and with a larger budget can advice on Sauternes and there is Tokaji from Hungary - start at the 5 Puttenyos and move up to the 6 pricewise and intensity! Waitrose and Majestic for those - and both a good source for some sweeter wines.
