it's wierd,O/H is now thinking he 'wants' to view my dad's body, which none of the rest of has done
It can be a very "pacifying" way of expressing grief, petal. I found it very comforting to see my old man at "peace" (he died of bowel cancer at 57).....the rest of the family declining to do so.

what about anorexia, methyl? Or am I skating on thin ice?
EDDIE51 I've done the body donation thing, but, as you say, there is no guarantee of acceptance. However, thanks for the other information :-)

(I know!) lol

trying to give petal a small chuckle.....(and you!)
I went to see my Dad.Worst thing I ever did .
I prefer to remember people as they were ,happy ,laughing , healthy and alive .
I've never been to look at any loved ones since .Never went to see my Mum .
Nearly forty years on that image of my Dad in his coffin still haunts me .

Headwreck, a body is not 'someone' it is just a lump of decaying organic matter that has to be disposed of. The 'someone' is the living breathing sentient person, that ceases to exist at the moment of death.
Funerals are for the living , the dead can know nothing about it.
Funeral directors are the most money grabbing b@stards on Earth ! I know that they pay £35 to £40 for a coffin but sell it on for a minimum of £750, they make 100% profit on flowers as well , what you pay £100 for they buy in for £50. They take advantage of people when they are at the most vulnerable and use emotional blackmail to pressure them into spending more money. They deliberately 'forget' to mention the cheapest options unless they are forced to reveal them. I recently helped organize a funeral and asked 3 undertakers for a quote , they were not happy when I told them I had a cheaper quote and asked them to beat it, but they did and I got the funeral the family wanted £550 cheaper than the first quote. Plus they were happy to be paid when the estate was sorted out, the first lot wanted £1500 cash up front !.
I guess, shaney, it was as my old man was wracked with cancer, there was a peace to it; ok the ghouls had done their work, that I accept. I can understand your thoughts to it though and it makes a lot of sense.
never went to see my mum shaney for same reasons. Prefer to remember her as I last saw her before she died
Anyway, will retire and say good night to y'all!
