Why take the fun out funeral ?

This site should help with everything you need to know:

http://www.humanism.org.uk/site/cms/

There are few legal controls governing the disposal of a body in the United Kingdom. The only requirement is that the death is certified and registered and the body properly taken care of, by either burial or cremation.

Burial is virtually free of regulations; individuals can be
buried in almost anything and almost anywhere. All that is
required is a death certificate signed by a doctor and a
certificate for burial from the registrar of deaths.

Many people now opt for a woodland burial in a cardboard box with little or no ceremony.
Basically, yes, you can (usualy) be buried in your garden, and you don't have to have a religious ceremony or undertakers... though if your family decide to go against your wishes, there's not a lot you can do about it, what with being dead.
Octavius that is brilliant,,,, i need to use that "fun out of Funeral" ha ha!!!
We had no trouble, the humanist society were really helpful and gave us all the info we needed, someone came to our house to tell us how to sort it all out.My mum is now in a forest in Ireland.
How would you feel if you bought a propery where someone had a relative buried in the garden. Makes me shudder thinking about it.
\well since they`re dead it wouldn`t really be an issue, what harm can they do??
Devalue the property if it's recent enough.
Why not leave your body to medical science. No funeral, no expense and you might just benefit someone, somewhere in the future. Ali
Thats a fair point, and if you are really lucky you might even get on telly at the hands of Professor Gunther Von Hagens.
My body is going to 'medical science' - no funeral, when they have finished you can be cremated and if the family want you back they can have the ashes. Trainee doctors are allocated their own body (well not THEIR own of course - mine LOL) so they can play around and learn what bits go where. Contact your local teaching hospital.

I'd rather my mates had a drink down the local than have to go to my funeral.
If I was to have a funeral I'd like my coffin to look like a skip - I always said they could just throw me in a skip.

Look at these:

Or you could have a cardboard one and be buried in one of those woodland burial sites where you biodegrade quicker.
lankeela - my Aunt left her body to medical science, but she then got cancer so they couldn't take her. She arranged for the undertakers to collect her from the morgue and take her straight to the crematorium so that there wouldn't be a funeral service. Fine, that was what she wanted, but I do think that it did deprive her family of a way to say goodbye. Funerals give the ones left behind something to concentrate on, and also it can be comforting to see all the people who turn up to the funeral, knowing that they too are going to miss your loved one. Funerals do have a purpose - just, not for the deceased.
Spudqueen is right. It's not just about you, bernie - in fact it's not about you at all, as you won't be there. It's about giving your family and friends a ritual to help their grieving. You might think it's all a joke; they might not.
I disagree - I find funerals very distressing, just when you have come to terms with losing someone, it is all brought to the surface again.

When any of my animals die, they go to be cremated and that is that. I have my memories of them and don't need to get their ashes or hold any sort of service. I want the same for me. I think any family who went against someone's wishes in this respect would be totally in the wrong.
cheer up, get a coffin from Ghana
I THINK here in the USA you are required to be cremated and buried in a real cemetary unless you are cremated. I want to be buried - but absolutely no funeral, etc. I have told my friends and family that when I die I want them to go out for a great dinner and when the drinks are served - have someone stand up and say - "if she were here she would be having a GREAT time"!!! I want laughing not crying when I go!!!
I agree with SPUDQUEEN and JNO, religious or not,as I'll be gone,It wouldn't matter,I would like to think whatever loved ones I leave behind would be happy with the arrangements, so I would be quite content letting them decide. Doubt if you could just bury someone in back garden,I would have thought it was an enviromental and health issue, especially if Loads of folk decided wanted that option
The organization of academy funeral services is provided the best result of the funeral related works.
