I shall try to answer but as'me 'not' we', would never deem to speak for anyone else.

I'm not afraid of speaking my mind.

I use my own nous to decide what is an acceptable thing to say,not what anyone else may advise.

The UK has been evolving for generations and it is as others have said quite hard to pin down what 'Identity' means in the context you ask,but speaking for myself - I haven't lost my identity.

Mamy...neither have I !

But it has changed over the years, not for the better or the worse, just different.
Mikey, unless they embrace the qualities that define ‘Britishness’, no it isn’t brown Muslim people, although I do have one brown friend whose father decided she was Muslim but who, since she’s matured, no longer believes him. She’s 'British'.

V_E has summed it up very nicely - and although you're attempting to split hairs, you know exactly what he's talking about. Those defining aspects our culture do not apply to the cultures that you are so eager to impose upon this country.

Just come out of Matalan Blackburn, the sales are on, I have never seen so many " MASKED DRIVERS " In my life, would this be allowed in any other country, how the hell can the see to their Right / Left? would that be permitted by the White population? & before you start, this is just an observation.
Naomi...all that VE has done, is to list some very admirable qualities, which most nations would count as belonging to them, not just us Brits.

Nothing in the list defines Britain and Britain alone. Even the English language can't count as millions of people all over the world speak that just as well as we do.

So, its as I thought then...as long as people are brown or brownish, and have Islam as their chosen religion, they can't possibly be counted as British, no matter how long they have lived here. But the same can't be said for Hindus, Jews, or anybody else with no religion at all...is that it ?
TWR...I share your fear for road safety...does that surprise you ?

Different law for us Mikey, we abide by the law & see where we are going, how the hell they can see properly, it beats me.
"Some characteristics which could describe "British" culture - not necessarily UNIQUELY..."
"Mass migration is a threat to this legacy TO THE EXTENT THAT the migrants do not understand, do not share, or are opposed to these values."

I've capitalised the words and phrase you'd overlooked, Mikey.
White British in East London are in the minority. Fact !
VE...I didn't overlook anything. I merely pointed out that the list of characteristics could apply to most nations in the world. There was nothing whatsoever on your list that is unique to Britain. If you had said warm beer, cricket and wasn't the Queen Mother wonderful, I might have agreed with you !

I am not denying that Britain has changed...it obviously has. But I deny that it has changed for the worse...some people might say that it has and that is up to them but for me immigration has benefited Britain in lots of ways.
Sammy

There are parts of my home town too where there are areas that are white British minority.

Areas where the split is even.

Areas that are mostly white British - and everything in between.

Some integrate fully, some less well and a few not at all.

I think from what I hear from those who work/live overseas that is the way of the world.
Well said vetuste_ennemi (gosh your name is hard to write).
Mikey, //the list of characteristics could apply to most nations in the world.//

It doesn’t apply to the nations that most of the immigrants are coming from.

//So, its as I thought then...as long as people are brown or brownish, and have Islam as their chosen religion, they can't possibly be counted as British, no matter how long they have lived here. But the same can't be said for Hindus, Jews, or anybody else with no religion at all...is that it ?//

If you’ll answer my question about Anjem Choudhury, you’ll answer your own question.

//I deny that it [Britain] has changed for the worse//

You’re certainly in denial.
Naomi...my record of condemning Anjem Choudary is well known and I don't have to explain it to you. He is an evil rabble rouser.
Mikey, You don't have to explain it to me? I thought we were having a discussion.

We know what he is, but we were asked to define 'Britishness' and my question to you was do you consider him to be 'British'?
"VE...I didn't overlook anything. I merely pointed out that the list of characteristics could apply to most nations in the world. There was nothing whatsoever on your list that is unique to Britain.".

I was trying to make a serious point about cultural identity and mass immigration, Mikey. I wasn't trying hard enough, so I'll have another go.

Firstly, let me take "Britishness" out out of the discussion: I'll drop the English language from my list. I WASN'T trying especially to define what makes me English and Pierre French; I was trying to define some key differences between Western societies on the one hand (where the values and cultural attitudes I listed are very largely built into both our institutions and our psyche), and, on the other, those societies from which most of the migrants are coming.

Europe (led by the Angel of Mercy) seems determined to add several millions (mainly from the Muslim world) to its population over the next two or three years. I think this will be bad for Europe. You appear to disagree, so I'll put some questions to you:

Do you think ALL of these new citizens will choose to abandon their own cultural inheritance on the coasts of Northern Africa or the Turkish seaboard?
Do you think ALL of their cultural attitudes are compatible with modern Western values?
[And this is a totally selfish question] What benefits do you think the Europeans are going to get in return for their hospitality?

Oh, a final question for you, Mikey:

You don't think these questions are unreasonable, do you?

// Do you think ALL of these new citizens will choose to abandon their own cultural inheritance on the coasts of Northern Africa or the Turkish seaboard? //

yeah I do actually

the syrian refugees have rejected their cultural norms by fleeing havent they - or else they would stay in Syria
that is the Syrians refugees will NOT start gassing their neighbours, decapitatiing archeologists or throw barrel bombs out of aircragt when they arrive in Berlin or London ( or Manchester )

"yeah I do actually"
The why do we have Sharia courts in England, and the infamous no-go areas in the banlieues (mentioned by you a while ago), Peter?
Where did all the niqabs come from? We never saw these forty years ago, did we?
It might be argued that that as the Muslim population expands it is becoming more Muslim rather than more Western.

We not only are putting "our" identity at risk, we are putting the UK at risk, what is happening is immigrants are taking (quite democratically) positions in local and national government, and self-interest necessitates strengthening their voice by demanding even more immigration to expand the dream of Islamification of the world..
I'm no fan of Richard Dawkins but he's right here, this really is sick and could apply to the UK as well as Germany;

//You don't think these questions are unreasonable, do you? //

Seems he does, V_E.
