Can anyone recommend nice hotels in the Lakes.
My siblings and i are planning on paying for my parents to have a long weekend away for their wedding anniversary and i know they want to go to the lakes. They have also mention Warner holidays but I cant see any in that area.
The web is full of hotel listings but id like some personal recommendations if possible. Budget isnt too great but want something decent rather than just a cheap B&B. Probably looking in region of £100-£170 a night

Agree with you re Windermere and Bowness, although a good base to explore from and nice towns in their own right, they are real honeypots, particularly in the summer and bank holidays.
The Grange,Ulverston and Cartmel areas in the South Lakes shouldnt be ruled out and I like that part of the Lakes very much. You are close enough to Winderemere etc...The other area I spent a lot of time as a kid (as we had family there) was Keswick although we rarely stayed in hotels, stayed at the family house. Plenty to do there, again quite busy in peak times
Anybody tried L'Enclume at Cartmel - a sane Heston Blumenthal apparently and I understand that he has 2 Michelin now.......?
DT - walked past and examined the menu last summer, whilst picking up a sticky toffee pudding from the village. Looks really nice, without being too "out there" like Heston. Pricey, but you would expect that.
