can anyone offer advise to me? im looking for a nice hotel for about 4 nights prefer Bed, Breakfast and evening meal. Its for a short , my hubby-to-be hates flying and so we have come to decision that the lakes would be a nice place to stay. on my wish list is an indoor pool, very near to a lake hopefully overlooking one, possibly a spa bath in room and possibly a 4 poster bed. somewhere peaceful but also taxi distance form a local village/town or somewhere to go. (if thats possible) also would like to go on a pony trek as never riden before! any more ideas or possible hotels please let me know, thanks abers x

I have the place for you.

The Low Wood hotel, see web site here:

My family had a Christmas break their this last Christmas and it was lovely.

As you can see from the picture, it is right on the shore of Lake Windermere. You can walk from the hotel to the lake in about 30 seconds.

It is isolated, but is between the towns of Ambleside and Windermere, which are about 2 miles away (in opposite directions, Ambleside is North and Windermere town is South).

As you can see from the picture, there are hills behind and the footpath up the hill is right behind the hotel.

There is a swimming complex alongside the hotel, picture here:

Some rooms in the original part of the hotel do overlook the lake, and I think one of the rooms has a 4 poster bed.

There is a modern part of the hotel but this is at the back of the hotel and does not overlook the lake.

Food was excellent.

This is the view from the breakfat room & dining room, as you can see, you can see the lake from the window.

We had three days there over Xmas (it was our daughters 21st birthday on Xmas day) and we did not have a single complaint.
Here is an aerial picture I found showing the lake, and the hotel, and the town of Windermere.

As I said, Windermere town is only a couple of miles South from the hotel, and Ambleside (which is just off the map) is only about 1 mile North from the hotel
The drunken duck does this sort of thing.
You could also book a lodge at the Langdale estate, as they have jacuzzi and saunas in them and can be booked for a week for about 600.
