Apologies if someone has already started a thread about this but I wonder what your thoughts are on this.

Madeline would be 9yrs old now and it's 5yrs since she went missing.
If she was found and had been brought up by a loving family, would it be right to take her away from that family?
Taking into account that someone has broken the law by kidnapping her and should pay the price for that and knowing that if it was my child I would want her back, I wonder how traumatic that might be for the little girl.

That was nice of you Nosha and I'm sure they take great comfort to know everyone does not judge them so harshly as some. Madeleine was clearly a much loved little girl.
Thanks Ladybirder.. It was a very long letter I wrote.. and I never intended to send it - but something made me post it... If you have ever read Kate McCanns book - honestly you couldnt make a movie out of it.. they way the police treated them was truly abhorrent.... No-one should ever suffer like they did.. on top of having their daughter taken.. to then endure accusations and lies..
Just truly disgusting...
I was so touched she replied to me.. A handwritten note. I'll keep it forever
I'm only early 40's but when I was a little girl (only child), we would holiday in UK holiday camps and my parents would tie a hanky on the door, as they went off to the bar, to let other holidaymakers to know to be quiet as there was a child sleeping - without a thought to the fact it was advertising a child / children alone !! It was almost unbelievable for me to hear this, you can imagine the out cry now if anyone did this. I also truly hope both Ben and Madeline are found.

Nosha, that really was a lovely and compassionate thing to do.
Yes nosha, I have read Kate's book and share your views.
Being nosy, where did you send the letter to?
I dont have their address.. Just marked it for her attention and the name of the town.. Rothley.. It found its way to her - took some months to get to her in person but expect there are a team of friends and family weedling out any weirdo letters... so only the nice ones get passed on to her...
The McCann's are not at fault for the loss of Madeleine. The person who took her is at fault.

With hindsight perhaps it wasn't the wisest thing to do to leave the door unlocked - hindsight is a wonderful thing - but this does not mean they are at fault and neither does it mean they are negligent.

The bottom of my garden is father away from my house than the McCanns were away from their apartment. My kids are regularly in the house on their own when I am doing something at the bottom of the garden or in the shed, and I can categorically state that I wouldn't even be able to hear if somebody decided to smash a window to get to my kids.

Does it make me a bad parent?

This McCann bashing really get on my tits - its almost as if people are pleased Madeleine was taken so that they can spout their cobblers about what terrible parents the McCanns are.
Hear hear Flip...

Thanks to all of you who contributed your thoughts on this.
We are all different and some of us will do what others wouldn't and visa versa.
At the end of the day all we can hope for is a happy outcome.
Yes she will be found ! The Pope and a billions of prayers have been offered up for her safe return and prayers are always answered according to
a minister who knocked on my door last week. So that's all right then.
There has been world widespread publicity about Madeline whoever has her knows that the real loving family is with her parents irrespective of the awful mistake they made.
If the money offered in compensation for whereabouts matched the money sent on the fruitless search (so far) someone would have spilt the beans. £1m+ would not be sniffed at!
the press have printed a computer generated photo of what sh may look like today, and good job too. however, has anyone considered that one of the first things the kidnappers would do is to change her hair colour, and continue to keep it changed as she grows up - also doing something about that unique right eye .. such as contact lenses. so that she looks nothing like that picture?
Yes, daffy, I am glad to see that you have noticed that we are all perfect little saints on here and have never ever done a thing wrong in our lives.

(I did not notice you switch your sarcasm on at the start of your post, by the way)
Yes, I have read the book about the case in the last week and could not put it down. It is a very harrowing read and anyone who is not touched by it has a heart of stone. I would recommend it to anyone.
