Apologies if someone has already started a thread about this but I wonder what your thoughts are on this.

Madeline would be 9yrs old now and it's 5yrs since she went missing.
If she was found and had been brought up by a loving family, would it be right to take her away from that family?
Taking into account that someone has broken the law by kidnapping her and should pay the price for that and knowing that if it was my child I would want her back, I wonder how traumatic that might be for the little girl.

Evian - we are all unfit parents if every mistake we've made was analysed.
Was Ben the boy who disappeared in Greece?

Well Evian as I said in my 11.31 post I do think that leaving youngsters on their own like this is bad parenting, but they will not make this mistake again.
Yes, snatched from the front garden.
Ummmm, I agree. It's a shame it's so easy to condemn others parents faults though. Like you said, they could just have easily have been sitting in their own garden.

Also like you said, this has been done to death and I'm too hungry to get into another never ending circle.
can't help but think that if it had been mechanic Gary and hairdresser Tracy from Clacton a more serious route would have been taken by the law/social services...however....there have been several kids found years down the line in the states who have been unable to settle with real parents and have ended back with abductors or the family they ended up with as to them they ARE family not strangers...

I don't think there's any serious doubt about that.
(so much for the italics, then!)
I did wonder the other day that maybe if she is still alive, she may not be able to speak English anymore.

I think she should absolutely go back to her parents, she is their child afterall. Why should another 'family' bring her up? She should be with her brother and sister. The thought of another family bringing up my daughter makes me feel sick, she's MY child!

I agree that Maddie's parents should never have left them alone in that room but they obviously never thought in a million years that one of their children would be abducted.

I really hope she is found soon.
Blackpool, Bournemouth, Clacton, Brighton, any seaside resort in and around the UK, before people start knocking the McCann family, how many have lost sight of their children on the beach? granted it was night time but I have said this in another post, the vast majority have done exactly what the McCanns have done, we had never ever thought this might have happened otherwise none of us including them would have left the children. regards the (IF) there are people that have abducted Madeline, they had no right in the first place to take any child away from their parents.
Very true TWR.

The thing is, they were on holiday. The probably presumed the were surrounded by other holiday makers. You don't expect them to be child abductors. They went to check on them every half an hour, more often than most people check on their children at home.
ummm, most parents keep doors locked at home, would notice a stranger in their house and would hear their child crying.
Unless they were in the bar round the corner.
For a lot of years, we've done an annual ski trip with a load of friends, and their children.

When the kids were small, and would need to be left in bed in the evening, we stayed in a small number of specifit hotels where there was a bar adjacent to the hotel entrance.

The children would be locked in their rooms, and we'd sit there, surrounded by friends clutching their baby monitors. Those things are really sensitive. You could hear the children breathing, even through several floors of a hotel.

It was a pain, and we'd have loved to abandon the hotel and go to a restaurant instead.
*sarcasm on*

I feel so honoured to be a part of a site that has so many perfect people as members. These people seem to have never done a thing wrong in their lives judging by their posts

*sarcasm off*
hc....no, I don't keep my doors locked. My doors are open from the time OH goes to work to the time the last person goes to bed.

If I was sitting in the garden I probably wouldn't hear a child cry unless I was sitting on my own in silence.
I feel sorry for the McCanns if they could go back in time they would never have left the children. They must be racked with guilt and if Maddie is found alive of course they will want her back. Who ever has her was v. wrong to obtain a child under those circumstances
If she was found and had been brought up by a loving family, would it be right to take her away from that family?

Of course it would be right , they would not be a loving family they would be scum and should be thrown in jail along with the kidnappers

assuming Madeline was kidnapped of course.
I hope they find her alive and she is returned well and safe.
I agree with Ummmm.. they were on holiday, let their guard down.. and encouraged by friends, who maybe suggested 'oh the kids will be fine.. we'll check on them regularly'.
The person who took her BROKE in.... didnt find her wandering the streets.. she was asleep in her bed.

I wrote to Kate McCann after reading her book and was so incredibly moved by what they have suffered and the treatment they have endured... and she actually took time out of her busy life to write back to me - even though I said to her not to bother to.
Truly wish them all the very best and hope the story has a happy ending!
Nosha, I couldn't have put it better myself.

PLEASE let them find her safe and well.
The McCann bashers here presumably also think Ben Needhams granparents were neglectful too.. and Sara Payne too... She was on a documentary earlier in the year and said that she allowed Sarah to walk back to the house with just her siblings... and no adults... and the siblings didnt realise she was tagging along behind them...
If the people who steal these children didnt exist - then no harm would ever have come to these precious children....
I hope and pray Ben and Madeleine are one day found....
