And I like that too, dave, its delish.....
I have tried the Wine Society's and it's a nice bottle.....

Description in the Times:
Buy your festive bubbles early as this superb fizz, a mix of chardonnay and pinot meunier, has a dash more pinot noir in the blend now, so its bold, oaky bouquet, creamy palate and nutty finish is even more seductive than before. The Wine Society has bought its champagnes from the revered house of Alfred Gratien for years and it is very hard to beat this Epernay producer’s traditional methods. Enjoy this bold, bouncy champagne now and during the festive season — or put it away for future celebrations taking place over the next three to five years for even richer, toastier flavours to emerge.(Jane MacQuitty)

£27 a bottle or £113.50 for 6.........

Sorry, been out to buy food.

Some nice ideas there.

We've got Waitrose, Sainsburys, Majestic near us. I've got some Marsala so that might be nice with pud. I've also got a Sauternes.

I'm sending Mr BM out for the wine tomorrow (two reasons - 1 he pays for it and 2 he is out of my bloody way). I think I shall send him to majestic - with ^^ above suggestions - at least he can talk to people there.
A late post but here goes anyway!

With port and Guinness involved, you'll need a red wine 'with a bit of clout'. For economy, a basic Corbières might suffice. Mid-range, I'd go for a decent Shiraz or a well-oaked Rioja (such as a 'Gran Reserva'). With a really good budget I'd go for a 'Grand Cru' claret, such as a decent St Emilion.
