We are going for a 5 day break in Paris at the end of May. What district (department/ardroissement whatever) would you recommend? I'm not so bothered about the shops, want to be inside the peripherique, with lots of nice walks and the usual touristy sites.
A nice romantic hotel. Clean, good service. Not tatty or run down. Within walking distance of most major sights, although we intend to do lots of walking and there's always the metro for the montmatre and further afield. Just somewhere with atmosphere - not bothered about the shops as in fashion etc, but somewhere with lots of bars, cafes, patisseries would be nice.
Something different and out of this world food-wise is the following establishment, La Cigale Récamier, which was located just off Saint-Sulpice in the Ste. Germain-des-Près area (south of la Musée d'Orsay). They are "incroyable" for soufflés, both savoury and dessert.
Gotta go - library closing!
I shall be back on here by the end of the week. Thanks everyone for suggestions so far. Apologies for some of the sloppy spelling (ardroissement!!!!) I'm in a rush....
Last year I stayed at this little gem of a hotel, literally a stone's throw from the Arc De Triomph. I can't tell you how much I loved walking down the Champs Elysee every morning on our way to that day's sights! http://www.paris-hotel-magda.com/
